Genesis has unveiled a convertible concept model, presenting new possibilities in electric vehicle design.

On the 15th of March (local time), Genesis showcased the “X Convertible,” the third model of the “X Concept Series” and the brand’s first convertible concept in Malibu, California.

The “X Convertible” embodies Genesis’s design philosophy and inspirations for the future, just like its predecessors, the “X” revealed in March 2021 and the “X Speedium Coupe” launched in April this year.

Utilizing the convertible’s roof that opens and closes, Genesis has encapsulated the direction of its electric vehicle design, which emphasizes a “driving experience that interacts with the natural environment.”

Genesis CCO Luc Donckerwolke stated, “The flexibility that allows the ‘X Concept Series’ to be created in various forms is unique to the Genesis brand,” adding, “This convertible concept embodies Genesis’s commitment to actively reflecting customer needs through a design that focuses on the joy of driving and sensory experience.”

The “X Convertible” builds upon the designs of the previous two concepts, expressing Genesis’s unique design language of “dynamic elegance,” while providing exceptional openness through features like a hardtop moonroof.

The overall design characteristics of the vehicle highlight refined luxury, with clean lines and exquisite curves that convey a unique and intense tension.

One of the most striking features at the front is the long dual headlamps, which reinterpret Genesis’s signature crest grille. This evolution signifies Genesis’s transformation into a brand that represents pure electric vehicles in the era of electrification.

The side profile features a long hood, short front overhang, a spacious dash-to-axle ratio, and a long wheelbase, creating an imposing appearance while emphasizing comfort.

One of Genesis’s design features, the “Parabolic Line,” starts at the hood and flows smoothly over the beltline to the rear, radiating elegance.

At the rear, the two lines of quad-lamp brake lights and the V-shaped brake light located above the trunk contrast against the oval-shaped trunk, evoking the image of the Genesis logo in wing form.

The wheels are designed in an aero disc type, reflecting Genesis’s unique G-Matrix pattern, making it efficient in cooling brake heat during driving.

The interior space inherits the design direction of the two previously unveiled models in the “X Concept Series,” applying a cockpit design that wraps around the driver with an emphasis on driver-centric layout.

Genesis utilized colors that embody traditional Korean aesthetics and emotions for the interior and exterior of the “X Convertible.”

The interior features two colors inspired by the roofs of traditional Korean houses. “Giyang Navy” is inspired by the tiles of traditional homes, giving a youthful and modern touch. “Dancho Orange,” inspired by the traditional Korean wood painting technique called Dancheong, contrasts beautifully with “Giyang Navy,” creating a unique atmosphere.

For the exterior color, a pearl-infused white called “Crane White” is used, inspired by the dignified and graceful form of a crane.

Focusing on providing a rich driving experience alongside exceptional openness, the “X Convertible” enhances sensory experiences not only through visual elements but also with rich sound.

A sound architecture designed in collaboration with sound master Yoo Guk-il from “Metal Sound Design” presents a future automotive experience where technology meets art.
