In the future, it will be possible to enjoy audio streaming services like ‘Podbang’ as well as video streaming services (Over the Top, OTT) such as ‘Watcha’ and ‘Wave’ inside the car.

On the 31st, Hyundai Motor and Kia began the rollout of a major infotainment (navigation) software update, which will provide these services starting this June. The vehicles capable of offering OTT content are those that support SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) features, which are now being launched.

This update will be implemented sequentially for major Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models, allowing customers to conveniently access these services through wireless (OTA, Over-the-Air) software updates.

The most significant change in this update is the addition of the ‘Cinema’ feature that allows you to enjoy video streaming content, such as that from Watcha and Wave, directly on the vehicle’s navigation screen.

To use the Cinema feature, you must subscribe to the ‘Streaming Plus’ service (7,700 won/month, launching June 1) provided by the connected car service app offered by Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, select the ‘Cinema’ button on the navigation home menu, and log in to the account of the streaming service you are subscribed to (limited to Watcha or Wave subscribers).

OTT content in the vehicle is only available for use when parked (P gear) for safety reasons.

Additionally, the largest podcast service in Korea, Podbang, will also be conveniently accessible inside the car through a dedicated service called ‘Podbang Auto.’

You can access the service by selecting ‘Podbang Auto’ on the navigation menu screen, and it can also be activated by saying “Play Podbang” or “Play (channel name) from Podbang” using voice commands.

Podbang Auto is an audio streaming service born from collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group and Podbang, allowing Hyundai Motor Group customers to easily enjoy content without logging in or ads.

The newly added Cinema and Podbang Auto functions will be supported in vehicles equipped with the advanced sixth-generation navigation or the next-generation infotainment systems ccIC and ccNC from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.

In addition, various features have been added to enhance the user experience through this update.

Previously, customers who paid for audio streaming services with Melon and Genie Music had to pay an additional 3,300 won monthly to use standard audio quality. However, starting in June, customers will be able to use the audio streaming service for free through a promotion.

Four new natural sound tracks created by director Jeong Jae-il, known for producing the music for ‘Parasite’ and ‘Squid Game’, have also been added. The new soundtracks include ‘The Sound of Spring Coming’, ‘Summer Night’s Rest’, ‘Autumn Sentiment’, and ‘Winter Warmth’. (Some vehicles may only provide the ‘Winter Warmth’ soundtrack).

Furthermore, users will be able to view ‘Scenic Routes’ certified by the Korea Tourism Organization on the map screen. You can search for ‘Scenic Routes’ around the route being guided during driving, near your current location, or near your destination.

The split-screen information on the right side of the electric vehicle navigation has been significantly improved. While previously it only provided battery status, driving range, and nearby charging station locations, the update now includes a power consumption graph that allows you to see the electric vehicle’s energy usage at a glance.

The Bluetooth audio feature has also become more convenient. Previously, to play music from a device other than the smartphone that was originally connected to the vehicle, users had to switch connections through navigation screen manipulation. However, after the update, when media content is played from your smartphone, it automatically transitions without additional manipulation, making music listening more convenient.

A Hyundai and Kia representative stated, “With this navigation software update, customers can enjoy a variety of content even inside the car. We will continue to develop new services and convenience specifications for a convenient and safe travel experience for our customers.”

Meanwhile, Hyundai will launch a special promotion alongside the streaming service launch. Hyundai, in cooperation with Wave, plans to offer a ‘One Month Free Subscription’ to 10,000 customers who subscribe to the Streaming Plus plan.
