Toyota Prius

The Korean Automobile Journalists Association has selected the Toyota 5th generation Prius as the Car of the Month for January 2024.

The Car of the Year Selection Committee under the association evaluates newly launched vehicles and partial changes released from the 1st to the end of the previous month to announce the Car of the Month. The evaluation consists of five categories: ▲ Interior/Exterior Design and Emotional Quality ▲ Safety and Convenience Features ▲ Power Performance ▲ Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Emissions ▲ Marketability and Purchase Intent.

Among the new cars showcased last month, the Mercedes-Benz The New GLC Coupe, Genesis G80, Toyota 5th generation Prius, and Hyundai The New Tucson (in alphabetical order) were in contention for January’s Car of the Month, with the Toyota 5th generation Prius ultimately winning with a score of 29.3 out of 50 after a fierce competition.

The Toyota 5th generation Prius received a score of 6.7 out of 10 in the energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions category and scored 6 points in both the interior/exterior design and emotional quality, as well as marketability and purchase intent categories.

Jung Ji-yeon, the chairperson of the Car of the Year Selection Committee, stated, “The Prius was first introduced as the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle in 1997 and has sold over 5.9 million units in approximately 26 years as a highly fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicle, leading the hybrid market. The newly launched 5th generation Prius features a stylish design that stimulates the senses, along with fuel efficiency and attractive performance, providing joy in driving.”
