‘The New Vantage’

Aston Martin has unveiled the latest model of the iconic racing lineage, the new Vantage. This quintessential Aston Martin sports car, focused on the driver, promises the ultimate thrill with pure, uncompromising performance and confidence, making it the fastest Vantage in its 74-year history.

The Vantage represents features that have captivated passionate fans through various generations, all while showcasing traits that are slowly becoming rarer in today’s sports car market. In this way, the Vantage fulfills the desires of ardent fans who seek overwhelming performance, razor-sharp handling, and the perfect balance of finely tuned front-engine, rear-wheel-drive chassis.

Following the successful launch of the DB12 coupe and Volante last year, Aston Martin’s new Vantage further solidifies the brand’s position in the ultra-high-performance sports car market. Furthermore, it leads the ultra-luxury GT, SUV, and hypercar segments, cementing the brand’s top tier standing in global championship motorsports.

The history of the next-generation Vantage began in 1950. The name Vantage was first used to signify the enhanced engine package of the racing-proven DB2. Later, in 1964, the high-performance version of the DB5 wearing the Vantage badge was launched as a new flagship model, marking the first application of the Vantage nameplate. By the early 1970s, a standalone Vantage model was introduced, and since then, this name has played a vital role in Aston Martin’s lineup. As suggestive as the name is, Vantage embodies perfect style, unforgettable performance, and an unmatched character, remarkably reflecting the essence of a sports car.

The new Vantage reflects the most dynamic period in Aston Martin’s 111-year history. It showcased a strong presence in the 2023 Formula One® season and boasts a rich history as the most successful endurance GT racer. Recently, they announced ambitions to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Valkyrie AMR in 2025, positioning it as a formidable contender in the WEC (World Endurance Championship).

“As we enter a pivotal period of transformation in the high-performance car world, it is crucial to maintain the characteristics on which this legendary brand is built,” said Amedeo Felisa, Aston Martin’s CEO. “Every car that bears the name Vantage must meet many expectations, which is why this latest model upholds a strong commitment to performance in its purest form. Furthermore, the new Vantage is an attractive sports car that incorporates the latest technology into a perfectly balanced front-engine, rear-wheel-drive chassis, as well as leading power and speed. This model offers an intense style, a completely redesigned interior, and cutting-edge infotainment, making it top-tier in every aspect.”

The new Aston Martin Vantage boasts the fastest speed in the brand’s history, powered by a dramatically improved handcrafted 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 engine delivering a formidable 665 horsepower and maximum torque of 800Nm. This represents an increase of 155 horsepower and 115Nm from the previous model, with improvements of 30% and 15%, respectively, marking the most significant enhancements ever.

This high output is achieved through extensive tuning by Aston Martin engineers, introducing modified cam profiles, optimized compression ratios, larger turbos, and improved cooling performance. This creates an impressive new figure and an engine with sharper, more sensory, and intense characteristics.

Coupled with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, this two-seater sports car races from 0 to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds, achieving a top speed of 202mph. The shortened final drive ratio (3.083:1) and transmission shift corrections maximize responsiveness and enjoyment. The former provides more robust in-gear acceleration, while the latter reduces shift speed and offers different shifting characteristics tailored to the Vantage’s dynamic mode.

Additionally, a new launch control system has been introduced for perfect implementation of standing start acceleration. Perfectly integrated with the powertrain, transmission, and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), launch control enables the driver to maintain optimal wheel slip as conditions allow by transmitting as much torque as necessary through E-Diff, ESP slip control, and engine torque management when activated.

‘The New Vantage’ Front

The driver can adjust the amount of controlled wheel spin permitted by the launch control system, or switch the launch control system to traction control (TC) off to allow full throttle control through the Adjustable Traction Control (ATC) system, thereby precisely managing the desired slip during launch.

To accommodate increased thermal loads from enhanced engine performance, the engine cooling system had to be completely redesigned. To ensure a stable intake temperature under all conditions, an additional low-temperature radiator has been fitted to complement the charge cooler water circuit, and two auxiliary radiators have been added to the existing central main radiator, significantly boosting thermal capacity.

The oil system has also seen extensive upgrades. The area of the auxiliary external engine oil cooler has been doubled compared to the previous model, while the amount of cold air reaching the radiator has been increased by 50%, improving thermal air flow.

Handling & Dynamics I – Highly evolved aluminum structure, perfect 50:50 weight distribution, and cutting-edge suspension combine to provide the foundation for the ultimate driving experience

The Aston Martin Vantage offers the ultimate driving experience through a highly evolved aluminum structure, perfect 50:50 weight distribution, and advanced suspension. Constructed using next-generation bonded aluminum architecture, the Vantage boasts an enhanced body structure that offers more focused and engaging dynamics, thanks to additional lower reinforcing components aimed at improving overall torsional rigidity.

Among these updates, the front body cross member has been re-engineered and relocated rearward to enhance the mounting point stiffness of the double-wishbone front suspension, improving on/off center steering feel. Additional improvements were made through the installation of stiffer yet lighter front engine cross braces to increase torsional and lateral stiffness between the front suspension towers.

At the rear, strengthening the sides between the rear suspension towers achieved a 29% increase in stiffness under cornering loads. Alongside improvements in the front and rear undertrays to boost lateral stiffness, the mounting stiffness of the dampers front and rear has also been improved, significantly enhancing precision, handling balance, driver feedback, and overall refinement.

This immediacy, control, and connectedness have been further enhanced through the new intelligent adaptive dampers. These state-of-the-art dampers, with a 500% increase in power delivery bandwidth over previous generation hardware, provide remarkable control range and response, allowing Aston Martin’s vehicle dynamics engineers to fine-tune the Vantage’s dynamics to the sharpest level possible.

The dampers have been carefully calibrated to maintain the Vantage’s signature sporty feel, while leaving room for the driver to progressively control body stiffness as they explore various dynamic modes. The Vantage, paired with E-Diff and ESP, can adapt to everything from rugged mountain roads to sweeping racetracks with just the push of a button or flick of a switch.

The Vantage’s Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system features a non-insulated steering column, providing direct transmission of driver steering inputs and an excellent flow of information from the road.

The EPAS offers a fixed 12.8:1 ratio rack combined with speed-variable assistance and a 2.27 lock-to-lock feature. The variable assist levels integrate seamlessly with the Vantage’s dynamic mode program, progressively decreasing as the driver pushes into the most aggressive mode (Track).

Steering response and front-end grip have been further enhanced by the Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tires, specially designed for the Vantage, recognized by the ‘AML’ code. These tires, in size front 275/35 R21 (103Y) and rear 325/30 R21 (108Y), utilize a custom compound engineered to deliver highly responsive, high grip, and progressive breakaway characteristics expected from the most driver-centric model in the Aston Martin lineup.

The Vantage comes standard with 21-inch forged alloy wheels. These lightweight wheels, sized at 9.5J front and 11.5J rear, are designed utilizing simulation tools to eliminate every gram of unnecessary mass while maintaining performance and aesthetics. Buyers can choose from three designs: a standard 5-spoke, and optional multi-spoke and Y-spoke, available in various colors and finishes, including the new satin bronze first introduced on the DB12.

The Vantage features solid cast iron 400mm front discs and 360mm rear discs as standard equipment for improved heat control and fade resistance. The brake booster has also been re-tuned compared to the previous model, providing instant braking force and gradual response thanks to the solid pedal, thus instilling greater confidence in the driver.

Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCB) are available as an option for the Vantage. This braking system enhances braking performance and reduces brake fade at temperatures of up to 800°C, while the CCB reduces unsprung weight by 27kg compared to the cast iron brake system, improving ride quality and steering response.

Handling & Dynamics II – Advanced Active Vehicle Dynamics (AVD) control system that provides outstanding control and distinct character

True to its reputation as the sportiest model, Aston Martin engineers have combined the Vantage’s superior chassis architecture with the latest electronic systems to maximize performance and create a unique and dynamic character. By improving agility and steering responsiveness while delivering a more precise and consistent feedback, the goal was focused on enhancing confidence and connectedness to create a vehicle that allows the driver to push the limits while providing an exhilarating experience without excessive reliance on driver skill.

The core of the Vantage’s enhanced handling characteristics is its advanced vehicle dynamics control system. This system continuously monitors the vehicle’s status through a 6-axis accelerometer, powertrain, braking system, and E-Diff sensors, coordinating with the electronic stability program (ESP) to modulate the overall dynamics of the vehicle. ESP compares this information against model-based Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Estimation (IVE) metrics and actively controls three core elements of the AVD system to optimize the vehicle’s response and handling actions across all weather, road, and track conditions.

This system employs cutting-edge 6D-IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), measuring the vehicle’s movements and acceleration across six axes simultaneously. This includes surge for forward/reverse, heave for up/down adjustment, sway for left/right movement, roll for left/right tilt, pitch for front/back tilt, and yaw for left/right rotation. This allows for an accurate assessment of how much and how quickly to activate the ESP interventions, enhancing vehicle movement and agility.

Power is transmitted via the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and E-Diff, integrating with the vehicle’s ESP. Unlike conventional limited-slip differentials, the E-Diff actively enhances stability in conjunction with ESP, allowing for precision and immediate control while providing optimized traction and consistent handling. The E-Diff can reach zero to full lock in 135ms and can respond as fast as 60ms when needed as a vehicle dynamics modifier.

Integrated Brake Slip Control utilizes a state-of-the-art ABS control system to optimize stopping distances and applies brake slip vectoring, preparing the vehicle for corner entry. Integrated Traction Control combines the engine, braking, and E-Diff to provide predictive slip control for optimal traction and traction slip vectoring for perfect traction when exiting corners. Lastly, Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVC) acts on brakes, powertrain, and E-Diff to optimize balance and handling at the limits of driving dynamics while improving dynamic characteristics for all driving styles and enabling a smoother ESP intervention through predictive operation.

The next-generation ESP works in harmony with the E-Diff to adjust its functioning depending on corner types, aiding the Vantage in making sharp turns while providing calm and confidence during high-speed curves where stability is paramount.

The new ESP has been tuned to support performance rather than limit it, exemplified by the new Adjustable Traction Control (ATC) applied to the Vantage. Drivers can choose between Wet, On, and Track ESP modes; ATC also deactivates the yaw control functionality of the ESP, meaning there is no off-throttle assist but the traction control level remains, with the exact amount adjustable via the ATC rotary switch.

At access, the ATC defaults to an intermediate setting of 5 but allows the driver to gradually reduce or increase the allowed wheel slip. Lowering it from 4 to 1 aids the vehicle in maintaining throttle stability. Common scenarios are managing hot tires on the track or navigating more challenging track conditions like a moist surface, but it also serves effectively in boosting confidence when transitioning to higher slip settings from 5-8 without ESP first.

Setting the gear to 5 adjusts engine torque modulation to a level where it enables fast and clean laps through slip control. Though oversteer may occur, the driver must respond appropriately. In the 6-8 stages, when yaw control is off, it allows increased wheel slip, which may reduce on-throttle stability. This mode enables the driver to learn the vehicle’s dynamics progressively at higher slip angles before switching to TC off, gaining the ability to freely control with throttle and steering inputs alone.

Roberto Fedeli, Aston Martin’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), stated: “The key to creating a truly great sports car in 2024 is applying cutting-edge technology in a way that enhances and elevates the driving experience without taking the driver out of the process. The Vantage will headline with significant increases in power and torque over previous models, but what draws enthusiasts and purists is the exhilarating way in which this performance is realized. With the industry-leading Active Vehicle Dynamics (AVD), it possesses a perfectly balanced front-engine, rear-wheel-drive chassis, bringing together exceptional performance, modernity, and usability. Completing this vehicle is a masculine design filled with the latest connected technology and infotainment, a perfect model that reinterprets a legendary tradition for modern times.”

The next-generation Vantage is evidently a game-changing model. Its body is 30mm wider, with a more robust stance characterized by a 38% larger redesigned veined grille aperture, further enhancing cooling performance with a 29% increase in mass airflow. Additional cooling intakes on both sides of the grille bumper emphasize the front-end features, while a new integrated splitter that is wider and lower not only provides aerodynamic functionality but also reduces lift for high-speed stability, adding dramatic design. This unique front design is completed with new matrix LED headlamp design featuring integrated DRLs, which incorporates Aston Martin’s new light signature.

The new Vantage sees the return of Aston Martin’s iconic side strakes, now leading to newly designed air vents that form a sharp focal point on each side. The standard 21-inch forged alloy wheels perfectly fill the wider wheel arches, exuding power and elegance. Frameless door mirrors and presentation door handles have also been newly applied to the Vantage, while the wider rear bumper with side air vents and the increased diameter quad exhaust tailpipes ensure that the Vantage looks as dramatic from the rear as it does from the front.

Vantage owners can choose one of three iconic core livery designs to further enhance the sporty character of the Vantage. Options include pinstripes, pinstripes with lipstick, or pinstripes, lipstick, and rear infill, available in 21 colors.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, stated: “While Aston Martin has many iconic model names, none evoke excitement and dynamism quite like Vantage. To emphasize the power and performance of the new car, the solid body has been highlighted, improving its sleek aesthetics. Inspired by the One-77 supercar, the Vantage aims to express its intent and strength more clearly. Instant visual impact balances with a smoldering charisma, echoing the driving experience while perfectly capturing the essence of the Vantage.”
