Mercedes-Benz has soared while Tesla has stumbled.

Mercedes-Benz has dominated the imported electric vehicle market, toppling Tesla’s stronghold.

The Korea Imported Car Association reported that in February, 1,265 imported electric vehicles were sold, accounting for 5.8% of the total imported car sales of 21,622 units. Mercedes-Benz was the brand with the highest sales of imported electric vehicles, selling a total of 610 units in February, which represented 11% of its overall sales of 5,519 units. Mercedes-Benz Korea explained that “the even sales of the EQB and EQE contributed to this result.”

Following this, the Porsche Taycan series registered a total of 117 sales, achieving a 10.4% market share among electric vehicles out of 1,123 total sales, while BMW had 337 electric vehicle sales out of 6,318 total sales, making it 5.3%.

On the other hand, Tesla continued to struggle with low sales for two consecutive months. According to Kaizyu, which analyzes and publishes automobile sales data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Tesla’s sales totaled only 45 units—3 units in January and 42 units in February. This means Tesla lagged over tenfold behind Mercedes-Benz in February alone. Normally, Tesla receives model orders quarterly and delivers them at the end of those quarters, resulting in low sales in the beginning months of each quarter—January, April, July, and October. In February, Tesla failed to escape its sales slump and continued to struggle.
