Jaguar TCS Racing has unveiled the Jaguar I-TYPE 6, designed for the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The Jaguar I-TYPE 6 is the most advanced and efficient pure electric racing car ever created by Jaguar. It is the first FIA Formula E racing car with a powertrain mounted at both the front and rear, featuring a 250kW front unit and a 350kW rear unit. This design doubles the energy recovery capabilities compared to the existing Gen2 models, eliminating the need for traditional rear brakes.

As the Gen3 era begins in Formula E in January 2023, faster and more exciting races are anticipated on urban circuits around the world. The third-generation Jaguar Formula E racing car boasts a body weight reduced by 50 kg compared to the previous generation, enhanced maximum output of 100 kW, and a top speed of 322 km/h, setting new performance benchmarks.

Jaguar TCS Racing will kick off the 2023 season with a new and unique identity. The Jaguar I-TYPE 6 livery features a captivating color scheme combining carbon black, satin white, and sleek gold accents, creating two special racing cars for drivers Mitch Evans and Sam Bird. Uniquely in Formula E, the Jaguar TCS Racing team will retain the same driver lineup for all three seasons, providing the team with the advantage of consistency.

As Formula E opens a new chapter, it will serve as a practical testing ground for both the Jaguar TCS team and Jaguar Land Rover. By developing and innovating cutting-edge technology aimed at winning the World Championship, the Jaguar TCS Racing team will leverage the accumulated knowledge in electric powertrains, sustainability, and software technologies for the development of production vehicles.

Through the innovation and technology transfer of the Jaguar I-TYPE 6, Jaguar will be reborn as a pure electric car brand representing modern luxury from 2025 onwards. With the most sustainable racing cars in the world participating in zero-emission motorsport, Jaguar Land Rover aims to achieve carbon footprint reductions to net zero by 2039, involving tailpipe emissions and carbon footprints across the supply chain, products, and overall operations.

Jaguar TCS Racing kicks off the 2023 season with a 3-star environmental certification from the FIA, recognizing the team’s continuous dedication to improving processes and exemplary environmental management.

To prepare for the 2023 championship, Jaguar TCS Racing has confirmed Wolfspeed as its official power semiconductor partner. This partnership builds on a collaboration that began in 2017, utilizing Wolfspeed’s advanced silicon carbide (SiC) technology to enhance track efficiency and performance. Recently, Jaguar Land Rover established a strategic partnership with Wolfspeed for the supply of silicon carbide semiconductors for next-generation electric vehicle inverters. Both partnerships emphasize efficiency and aim to leverage race-derived technology and knowledge for road applications.

This season will see a renewal of the official technical partnership with Micro Focus, which has successfully collaborated with the team over the past two years. World-class software and services such as Micro Focus’s AI-based data analytics platform IDOL and Vertica analytics platform will be utilized to collect and process vast amounts of data, leading to more accurate race predictions and timely decision-making, resulting in more points, podium finishes, and victories.

Tata Consultancy Services, a global IT service, consulting, and business solutions company, continues its long-standing title sponsorship with Jaguar TCS Racing, with Wolfspeed and Micro Focus joining this world-class partnership portfolio. Furthermore, the team maintains relationships with leading global companies such as GKN Automotive, Dow, Castrol, Alpinestars, and Uncommon to enhance its performance and innovation.

This season marks the first time Jaguar will supply successful powertrain technology to its British teammates at Envision Racing, allowing for four racing cars powered by Jaguar’s cutting-edge powertrain on the track.

The Jaguar TCS Racing team is fully focused on preparing for Season 9, which will kick off with the opening round in Mexico City on January 14, 2023, consisting of a total of 17 rounds in 12 cities. Building on the experience gained from last season where Mitch Evans finished second in the driver standings, the team is ready to charge towards the 2023 World Championship title.

James Barclay, team director of Jaguar TCS Racing, stated, “Formula E Season 9 will be one of our most competitive and thrilling seasons ever with the all-new pure electric racing car, the I-TYPE 6. Last season, our team achieved the best-ever results, but we know we can do even better. I’m confident in the strong advantage we have with the I-TYPE 6 and the Jaguar TCS Racing team, and I look forward to the outcomes of this season.”
