Volvo Cars has globally unveiled the upgraded C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge, enhancing performance while maintaining their renowned safety standards.

The recently unveiled XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge include a rear-wheel-drive model, marking a significant development for Volvo Cars, which has not introduced such models in 25 years. The installation of a proprietary second-generation permanent magnet electric motor at the rear axle has been hailed as a step closer to achieving Volvo’s electrification strategy for 2030.

The battery size for the single motor remains at 69kWh, consistent with previous models, but both models see an approximate 9% improvement in driving range due to enhanced cooling efficiency. In some countries, an optional 82kWh battery pack allows for upgraded rapid charging at 200kW, with the XC40 Recharge achieving up to 515km and the C40 Recharge reaching 533km. Meanwhile, the dual motor’s battery size has increased to 82kWh, with both models also showing about a 10% increase in driving range. (All ranges are according to WLTP standards)

The XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge have already proven their safety credentials through evaluations by two organizations conducted in 2022.

Both vehicles achieved the highest rating of ‘TOP SAFETY PICK+’ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) thanks to their crash safety test results, marking the XC40 model’s second consecutive year of receiving the top rating following tests conducted in 2021. The C40 Recharge also excelled in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) safety tests, earning a 5-star rating and setting new standards for vehicle safety.

The XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge currently available in the domestic market feature the same high-level safety specifications as Volvo’s flagship 90 cluster lineup. They come equipped with the latest ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) with high-end safety packages, including ‘Driver Assistance’ and ‘Pilot Assist’, alongside other cutting-edge safety technologies.

Additionally, they include a Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) that safeguards both the driver and passengers in the event of a crash and a Side Impact Protection System (SIPS).
