Hyundai Motor Group has once again been recognized for its global quality excellence by achieving the top ranking in the renowned U.S. quality survey for two consecutive years in the automotive group category.

According to Hyundai Motor Group, J.D. Power announced on the 9th (local time) that in the ‘2023 Initial Quality Study’, Genesis ranked 2nd (144 points), Kia 3rd (152 points), and Hyundai ranked 8th (170 points) out of a total of 31 brands, including luxury brands, maintaining its position as the best among the 16 global automotive groups, just as it did last year.

Kia celebrated the honor of receiving the ‘Best Mass Market Brand Award’ by ranking 1st among mass-market brands for three consecutive years. Additionally, Genesis secured 2nd place among 13 luxury brands, while Hyundai achieved 6th place among 18 mass-market brands.

As a result, Hyundai Motor Group recorded the lowest average score of 160 points among the 16 global automotive groups, surpassing Toyota (163 points) and General Motors (165 points) to take the top spot.

Moreover, specific models received accolades, with the Kia K3 (known locally as Forte) leading in the compact car category, the Kia K5 (known locally as Optima) taking 1st place in the midsize car segment, and the Kia Sportage winning in the compact SUV class, totaling three models receiving the ‘Best Quality Award’.

Additionally, the Hyundai Avante ranked 1st in the compact car category, the Hyundai Santa Fe in the midsize SUV class, the Kia Sorento in the upper mid-size SUV segment, and the Kia Carnival (known locally as Sedona) in the minivan category, earning quality awards.

The durability quality survey investigates customer satisfaction regarding durability quality across 184 items three years after vehicle purchase, aggregating the number of complaints per 100 vehicles. A lower score indicates a higher quality satisfaction level.

Hyundai Motor Group’s excellent performance in the durability quality survey, regarded as one of the two major metrics of automotive quality evaluation alongside the new car quality survey, is expected to significantly contribute to enhancing brand image and increasing sales in the future.

A representative from Hyundai Motor Group stated, “The background behind Hyundai Motor Group’s outstanding durability quality among global automakers is the continuous effort across all sectors to improve quality. We will spare no effort to maintain quality that continuously meets customer expectations in the future.”

The 2023 durability quality survey included a total of 31 brands, 227 models, and over 30,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. from July 2019 to February 2020.
