Hyundai Motor Company is taking steps to improve public transport for local residents in Gyeonggi Province.

In collaboration with the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, Hyundai will initiate an integrated transportation service based on demand-responsive transport systems across the entire Daebudo area of Ansan City.

Hyundai will transform its AI-based demand-responsive transport service, ‘Shuckle’, into a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform, enhancing the service level to support the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation.

This newly launched integrated transportation service represents the first time such a demand-responsive transport system will be available across Gyeonggi Province, previously limited to rural areas. An additional six regions are expected to be introduced in the first half of this year.

The integrated transport service, provided through the ‘Ddotta’ application, will be operated by the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation. Ddotta is a customized mobility platform developed by Hyundai based on the Shuckle platform for Gyeonggi Province.

Users can input their origin and destination to receive vehicle dispatch based on real-time demand and traffic conditions, allowing them to travel conveniently to their desired locations. If dispatch is difficult, nearby shared scooters will be recommended to assist with mobility.

Additionally, users can enjoy transfer discounts if they switch to public transport like buses, enabling residents in previously underserved areas to utilize transport services more conveniently.

The Shuckle platform, which supports Ddotta, is designed to allow for regional customization with minimal adjustments, accommodating the unique transportation environments of different regions.

Hyundai has established an integrated support system that covers traffic situation analysis and service operation support prior to platform implementation. They are also strengthening partnerships with various mobility companies to enable connections with necessary transportation services.

Kim Soo-young, Executive Director of Hyundai MCS LAB, stated, “Shuckle, which introduced the nation’s first AI solution-based demand-responsive transport, now provides the Ddotta app based on two years of operation experience. We will strive to collaborate with more local governments to create public transport service platforms tailored to regional characteristics, enhancing citizens’ daily mobility.”

Last August, Hyundai passed a regulatory sandbox for a pilot project of the integrated demand-responsive mobility service in Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation.

Plans are underway to expand connections with various transport modes like shared bicycles and taxis in consideration of local transport characteristics, and to offer phone-based request functions for digital non-native users.
