Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis have been honored with a total of 11 products selected as the winners in the transportation and robotics design categories at the ‘2022 Good Design Awards.’

The Good Design Awards in the United States is a prestigious recognition established through a collaboration between the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies. Each year, they announce the award winners across various categories, including electronics, transportation, furniture, and robotics, highlighting products from Fortune 500 companies.

Hyundai received accolades in the transportation design category for ▲Trailer Drone ▲Seven Concept, and in the robotics design category for ▲PnD (Plug & Drive) Mobility ▲L7 ▲MobED, making them five products honored overall.

The innovative hydrogen mobility concept ‘Trailer Drone’ further cements its significance, having won the top award in the design concept category at the 2022 Red Dot Awards before being named in the Good Design Awards.

The ‘Seven’ concept, a vision for a large SUV electric vehicle, features a flowing curve from the low hood front to the roof and a long wheelbase, achieving a distinctive ratio while maintaining a typical SUV design.

Hyundai secured three out of the eight products selected in the robotics design category, showcasing its excellence in robotics design.

The award-winning PnD Mobility and L7 are based on the PnD module, a futuristic mobility solution. The PnD module combines in-wheel motors, steering, suspension, brake systems, and environmental awareness sensors into a single structure.

Moreover, ‘MobED’ is a new concept of small mobility using DnL (Drift and Lift), which allows the vehicle body to maintain a level stance even on inclined roads or uneven surfaces. It features a wide steering angle and adjustable wheelbase, ensuring excellent mobility in narrow and complex urban environments.

Kia secured four selections in the transportation design category with ▲Niro ▲EV9 Concept ▲Magenta Design Infotainment System ▲Dedicated Infotainment System for Electric Vehicles, achieving a well-rounded recognition that includes production vehicles, concept designs, and software designs.

The eco-friendly SUV ‘Niro,’ launched in January last year, reflects Kia’s design philosophy of ‘Opposites United,’ illustrating a creative fusion of contrasting concepts, resulting in a unique yet sophisticated design.

The ‘EV9 Concept’ showcases a sea-blue body color representing ‘water,’ with flooring made from recycled fishing nets and seats constructed from recycled plastic fabric, reflecting Kia’s commitment to a sustainable mobility society. The flagship electric SUV EV9 is expected to launch in the first half of the year.

Kia’s ‘Magenta Design Infotainment System’ and ‘Infotainment System for Electric Vehicles’ also made the list of award winners.

The magenta-colored infotainment system optimized for vehicle displays emphasizes a cohesive design connecting the dashboard and central display, and is the world’s first to offer a ‘dynamic’ theme that changes background images based on time, weather, and speed.

The infotainment system specifically for electric vehicles features a smoothly connected black background, implementing a thin and soft feel similar to that of paper. It also boldly removes previously provided information, displaying only essential data required for electric vehicle operation in a more readable format.

Genesis won two awards in the transportation design category with ▲G90 ▲Genesis ccIC (connected car Integrated Cockpit) infotainment system. This achievement marks Genesis’s eighth consecutive year of recognition since the brand’s launch in 2015.

The ‘G90’ emphasizes an elegant image at the pinnacle of Genesis’s design philosophy of ‘Dynamic Elegance,’ boasting a sophisticated and stylish design.

The front, featuring a newly designed crest grille and two-line lamp forming the Genesis emblem, alongside a parabolic line that gives the impression of a luxury sedan, seamlessly integrates with a side profile designed for openness through the DLO line and a rear end that exhibits a confident, stable stance with its slim, elongated dual rear lamps, showcasing design excellence.

The Genesis ccIC infotainment system, which is also recognized alongside the vehicle, provides a cohesive user experience through organic content linking between the HUD, instrument cluster, and navigation, elegantly designed to allow drivers to conveniently access various information via the panoramic display.

A representative from Hyundai Motor Group stated, “This award is the result of the passion and effort of the designers and engineers striving to realize the best lifestyle mobility. We intend to foster a deeper emotional connection between people and mobility by enhancing the value added to customers’ lives.”
