BorgWarner has begun production of electric motor rotors and stators that will be supplied to the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xiaopeng Motors. These products are set to be installed in the Xiaopeng multipurpose vehicle, the X9 model, and will also feature in B-class electric sedans planned for production starting in the third quarter of 2024. The high-voltage hairpin 220 electric motor offers high output and torque density, boasting excellent efficiency and durability at a competitive price.

Stefan Demele, president and general manager of BorgWarner’s PowerDrive Systems, stated, “We are excited to supply our proven stators and rotors to leading electric vehicle manufacturers like Xiaopeng, contributing to the advancement of the Chinese electric vehicle industry. BorgWarner’s deep product expertise will greatly assist in Xiaopeng’s electric drive design process.”

The HVH220 electric motor features a stator with an outer diameter of 220mm and utilizes BorgWarner’s patented high-voltage hairpin winding technology, providing an operating range of up to 800V. It also integrates permanent magnet rotors and enhanced stator insulation technology to ensure excellent durability and reliability. The HVH220 electric motor from BorgWarner can produce a maximum power of 300kW at speeds up to 18,000rpm, with an efficiency exceeding 97%.

BorgWarner has developed oil cooling solutions to meet the performance requirements of high-output motors. Transmission oil cools the motor, improving heat transfer within the system and overall heat dissipation. Additionally, direct rotor oil cooling solutions extract heat from the center of the electric motor, achieving high torque and power density.
