Genesis has once again showcased its presence in the global luxury car market by being named in MotorTrend for this year, following last year’s accolades.

Genesis announced that its G90 has been selected as the ‘2023 Car of the Year’ by the highly prestigious automotive magazine MotorTrend.

The G90 shone brightly in its category against more than 20 competitors, including the BMW i4, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and Honda Civic Type R, demonstrating remarkable competitiveness across six assessment categories such as safety, efficiency, value, design, engineering, and driving performance.

The MotorTrend Car of the Year awards ceremony was notably held at the ‘2022 LA Auto Show,’ which opened on the 17th (local time).

MotorTrend cited the exterior design of the G90, advanced new technologies, and its luxurious and diverse convenience features as key reasons for its selection.

Edmunds Editor Edward Loh stated, “Genesis’s flagship G90 showcases meticulous consideration in every aspect that passengers see, touch, and experience, from the quilted leather and wooden materials throughout the interior to the technological elements maximizing usability. Genesis has not only achieved high levels of quality but also stunning price competitiveness that rivals the conventional wisdom of luxury sedans, setting a new standard for luxury with the G90.”

Editor Christian Chivaux remarked, “The G90 is a model that possesses an elegant yet timeless value that sets it apart from its competitors. I think the G90 is an incredibly mature model.”

The judges also noted that the G90 welcomes passengers with generous features and intuitive usability.

They praised the ease-close function, which allows doors to close smoothly at the touch of a button, along with a spacious rear environment equipped with reclining and massage functions, concluding that the G90 is the most comfortable and attractive luxury sedan in the world.

The MotorTrend Car of the Year is recognized for its high objectivity and credibility, as it is evaluated by high-level experts through extensive real-world testing and meticulous analysis over a long period of time.

Genesis has received acclaim in the MotorTrend Car of the Year context, having previously had its G70 named Car of the Year in 2019, and the GV70 being named SUV of the Year in 2022, marking a continuous streak of success.

This year, the Ioniq 5 was selected as the first EV to be named ‘SUV of the Year,’ making it a year where the Hyundai Motor Group secures all top honors offered by MotorTrend.

Claudia Marquez, Genesis North America’s Chief Operating Officer, stated, “It is an honor for the G90 to be named the 2023 MotorTrend Car of the Year. This recognition acknowledges our sincere commitment to providing products with designs and performance that meet and exceed customer expectations.”

The G90’s win is significant as it showcases Genesis, a South Korean luxury car brand, gaining recognition for its competitiveness in the global luxury car market, which has largely been dominated by European and American brands, setting a new benchmark for premium sedans.

Built on Genesis’s design philosophy, the G90 is equipped with a flagship sedan design that boasts the finest product quality, elegant exterior, and aesthetics based on spacious interior design, multi-chamber air suspension, active rear wheel steering (RWS), easy-close, and mood-curating features, enhancing comfortable travel.

This has led to the G90 receiving accolades, including a Silver Award at the 2022 IDEA Design Awards organized by the American Industrial Designers Society in September, and being named ‘Car of the Year’ by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association in February, further validating its excellence in product quality both domestically and internationally.
