Volvo Cars has announced that it will be the first in the automotive industry to equip vehicles with ‘Sunlike LED’ lighting that closely resembles natural sunlight.

The 72 new Sunlike LED lights that will be installed in Volvo’s next-generation electric flagship SUV, the Volvo EX90, offer more natural color representation than traditional automotive LEDs. With low reflectivity and high color reproduction, it depicts colors as they are in nature. The lights emit a steady glow and block blue light, helping reduce eye strain and headaches.

The Sunlike LED, designed to replicate natural sunlight, is known to positively affect the human body’s 24-hour hormonal rhythm. By incorporating this innovative lighting in cars, Volvo aims to provide passengers with a sense of comfort and relaxation, similar to being outdoors.

Dan Pidget, Volvo Cars’ Head of Color and Materials, stated, “The most important element in Volvo’s interior design has always been customer convenience,” and “with the introduction of Sunlike LEDs, Volvo strives to consistently provide a more refreshed premium driving experience through innovative technology.”

Meanwhile, the Sunlike LEDs that will be installed in the Volvo EX90’s interior are supplied by the Korean company ‘Seoul Semiconductor.’ Currently, Sunlike lighting is primarily used to illuminate indoor spaces in residential areas, hospitals, schools, museums, and horticulture, making Volvo the first to introduce it in vehicles.
