Volvo Trucks has been leading the heavy electric truck market in Europe and North America since the first quarter of 2023. Since launching its first electric truck in 2019, Volvo Trucks has sold about 5,000 electric trucks across approximately 40 countries, including sales in Asia, South America, and Africa.

During the first quarter of 2023, a total of 600 electric trucks over 16 tons were registered in Europe, a figure that represents more than a fourfold increase compared to 134 units in the first quarter of 2022. Volvo Trucks’ market share of electric trucks in Europe has increased from 32% in 2022 to 50% in the first quarter of 2023, marking the highest market share.

Volvo Trucks has also maintained its leading position in North America, which accounts for over half of the global heavy electric truck market.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, stated, “Our commitment to sustainable transport is yielding clear results. We will work closely with our customers to achieve the decarbonization goal of truck transportation.”

In the first quarter of 2023, the markets with the highest registrations of electric trucks from all manufacturers, including Volvo Trucks, were Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the United States.

In the first quarter of 2023, new orders for Volvo electric trucks totaled 486 units, reflecting a sharp increase of about 141% compared to the first quarter of last year. Most orders came from Northern European countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, and Sweden.

Since launching its first electric truck in 2019, Volvo Trucks has sold about 5,000 electric trucks in 40 countries, focusing on Europe and North America, while also starting sales in Australia, Chile, and Morocco. In 2023, they plan to begin sales in new markets including Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, and India.

Last year, Volvo Trucks added the popular 44-ton class Volvo FH, FM, and FMX large models to its electric truck lineup. Currently, Volvo Trucks offers a total of six electric truck models, boasting the widest range of carbon-neutral eco-friendly products in the industry.

Volvo Trucks is expanding electric truck production at three facilities located in Gothenburg, Sweden; Blainville, France; and New River Valley, USA. In the third quarter of 2023, mass production of electric trucks will also commence at Volvo’s largest plant located in Ghent, Belgium.

To further promote the adoption of electric trucks, public charging stations for heavy trucks are essential. The Volvo Group plans to install at least 1,700 high-performance green energy public charging stations across Europe in collaboration with Daimler and Traton Group.

Volvo Trucks has established a group-wide vision to achieve 50% of new truck sales globally by 2030, reduce carbon dioxide emissions from newly sold trucks by 100% by 2040, and reach net-zero by 2050.
