Mercedes-Benz Korea officially sponsors the collaboration between the renowned Swiss ensemble, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, and world-class pianist Im Yoon-Chan in the event ‘2023 Mercedes-Benz Selection Lucerne Symphony Orchestra & Im Yoon-Chan,’ which will be held on the 28th (Wednesday) at Lotte Concert Hall.

This sponsorship marks the ninth activity of Mercedes-Benz Korea’s cultural arts support program ‘Mercedes-Benz Selection.’ Since the start of this initiative with the Berlin Philharmonic’s concert in November 2017, Mercedes-Benz Korea has been supporting a wide range of cultural arts activities such as music performances and exhibitions, providing Mercedes-Benz customers with unique opportunities to experience exceptional cultural arts that align with the luxury of the brand.

In particular, this concert has garnered great anticipation from domestic fans as it features the collaboration with the internationally renowned Lucerne Symphony and pianist Im Yoon-Chan, who made headlines as the youngest winner in history at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Tickets sold out quickly upon opening.

The program for this concert will include Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 ‘Italian,’ under the baton of chief conductor Michael Sanderling, with Im Yoon-Chan as the soloist. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 is a deeply lyrical piece, and following his praised performance of Mozart’s Concerto No. 22 at the Cliburn semi-finals, Im Yoon-Chan is set to deliver yet another touching experience to the audience.

Founded in 1806, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra is the oldest symphony orchestra in Switzerland and is currently led by chief conductor Michael Sanderling, who was appointed in the 2021-2022 season. The orchestra collaborates with various globally recognized guest conductors and musicians, and is active in numerous concert series and recording projects, including Europe’s premier summer music festival, the Lucerne Festival.

Pianist Im Yoon-Chan made history in 2022 as the youngest winner at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at age 18, also earning the Audience Award and the Best Performance of a New Work. That same year, he was awarded the Grand Prize in the Arts category at the National Brand Awards and was named one of ‘30 Under 30 Rising Stars’ by Classic FM in the UK, quickly rising to fame as a global classical star.

Mercedes-Benz Korea plans to invite customers to this concert in collaboration with its official dealerships, promising a special experience suitable for its premium brand. Following this event, they also aim to actively promote cultural arts sponsorship and partnership activities throughout the year with ‘Mercedes-Benz Selection’, further establishing customer touchpoints that deliver exclusive brand experiences and contributing to the expansion of high-quality cultural arts activities.
