Volkswagen will debut the new 9th generation Passat at the ‘IAA Mobility 2023’ opening in Munich, Germany on the 5th.

The new Passat is expected to launch in Q1 2024 as a practical Variant model. Its exterior design is clear yet striking, encapsulating Volkswagen’s design identity while embracing a fresh style in every detail. It is equipped with two types of plug-in hybrids, one mild hybrid, and five efficient and powerful internal combustion engines with gasoline and TDI options.

The new Passat boasts excellent livability, quietness, and practicality, featuring enhanced ‘Adaptive Chassis Control Pro’ and ‘ErgoActive Seats’ with massage functions. The 4th generation modular infotainment system, MIB4, enables intuitive operation, complemented by advanced features such as automatic parking and driving assist functions for long-distance travel.

Exactly 50 years ago, Volkswagen launched one of its most successful models, the Passat.

Globally, over 34 million Passats have been sold, making it Volkswagen’s second best-selling model after the Golf and surpassing the Beetle in sales.

The new Passat is developed based on the innovatively evolved MQB evo platform. Starting with the Passat, various Volkswagen models will share MQB evo, achieving both production efficiency and economic viability. Furthermore, cutting-edge technologies introduced in the Passat will be expanded to various models, achieving “the popularization of innovation.”

The new Passat will include new plug-in hybrid variants with outputs of 204 and 272 horsepower, along with an e-hybrid lineup. These models feature a 19.7kWh battery that allows for an electric-only range of approximately 100km.

According to research by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, 95% of road trips in Germany are under 50km, while 99% are under 100km. This aligns perfectly with the range of the new Passat e-hybrid models, which can operate like electric vehicles for most daily drives. The combination of a 1.5L gasoline turbo engine and electric motor also ensures excellent efficiency in hybrid mode, allowing for approximately 1,000km on a single charge and refuel.

For the first time, the new Passat introduces a 150-horsepower eTSI mild hybrid version with a 48V system. Internal combustion engine models will feature two 2.0L gasoline TSI engines providing 204 and 265 horsepower, alongside three 2.0L TDI engines producing 122, 150, and 193 horsepower, respectively.

The top models of the TSI and TDI engines come equipped with the intelligent electronic 4WD system, 4MOTION as standard, while other models utilize front-wheel drive. All models feature efficient DSG transmissions as standard.

The interior of the new Passat has been refined with an entirely new style. In particular, the stylish and innovative large display captures attention. The 4th generation infotainment system, MIB4, systematically meets the needs of drivers and allows intuitive operation.

Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) Pro, which allows delicate adjustments to driving feel, offers top performance and comfort, leading to a new level of driving experience. Additionally, the newly developed ‘ErgoActive Plus Seats’ feature a 10-chamber massage function, providing a high level of comfort even during long drives.

Moreover, with a wheelbase extended by 50mm, legroom increased by 50mm, and a trunk capacity of up to 1,920 liters, the new Passat is equipped with various advanced convenience features derived from Volkswagen’s flagship model, the Touareg, making it an ideal all-round vehicle for business and leisure.

The new Passat boasts the highest quality in all aspects, from spaciousness, luxurious materials and textures, diverse advanced features, and intuitive controls to comfortable seating and top-notch quietness.

With the next-generation Passat, a bestseller and excellent partner for leisure and business, Volkswagen once again showcases its technological prowess and refinement beyond class limits.
