The 11-passenger Carnival is being discontinued due to low sales volume.

Kia held a launch event for ‘The New Carnival’ on November 7 at Kia 360 in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul. The New Carnival is a facelifted version of the fourth generation that was released in August 2020.

The new design reflects the concept of Opposite United, adding a refined sophistication. The front features star map signature lighting daytime running lights and a large radiator grille, presenting a futuristic and sleek front face. The rear is designed with a star map rear combination lamp that creates a clean image for the tailgate, harmoniously linking the front and rear. The sides enhance balance by seamlessly connecting the vertical front and rear lamps along a straight character line.

The driver’s seat features a curved display that combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and center display, enhancing driver focus.

Starting with this model change, a 1.6 Turbo Hybrid powertrain has been added in line with trends in the large RV market, along with the existing 3.5 gasoline and 2.2 diesel engines. The 1.6 Turbo Hybrid engine delivers a system output of 245 horsepower and a maximum torque of 37.4 kg.m, while achieving a respectable fuel efficiency of 14 km per liter based on Kia’s own driving test standards.

Additionally, the new model will not offer the 11-passenger configuration. This is due to its low sales share. Kia emphasized, “When looking at the sales share of Carnival models, the average for the 9-passenger is 65%, the 7-passenger is 25%, and the 11-passenger is less than 5%,” stating that customer demand for the 11-passenger version is extremely low.

A representative from Kia’s domestic sales division added, “The 11-passenger model has folding seats in the aisle, which makes it inconvenient to move between the second and third rows. Most customers prefer the 7-passenger or 9-passenger models, which allow easier movement between the second and third rows.”
