Volvo truck service center equipped with solar power facilities

Volvo Trucks Korea has achieved RE100 by using 100% renewable energy for all power consumed at its domestic business locations.

Starting in October, Volvo Trucks Korea has equipped three of its direct service centers located in Dongtan, Incheon, and Gimhae with solar power generation facilities, converting all electricity used domestically to 100% green energy.

This achievement of RE100 by Volvo Trucks Korea includes approximately 2 GWh of annual direct renewable energy generation and offshore power purchase agreements (PPAs), contributing to an annual reduction of 1,000 tons of carbon emissions. This is equivalent to planting over 70,000 trees each year.

Volvo Trucks Korea’s conversion to 100% green energy is viewed as a prominent success story amid current challenges regarding the realistic attainment of RE100 due to the lack of solar and wind infrastructure in the country.

Under its group vision of sustainability, Volvo Trucks has set step-by-step goals for 2030, 2040, and 2050. The aim is to replace 50% of truck sales with electric trucks or products that do not emit carbon by 2030, and by 2040 to replace all products sold with carbon-neutral alternatives. Furthermore, by 2050, Volvo Trucks aims to achieve net-zero across all processes involved in its operations as part of its broader corporate vision for sustainability and carbon neutrality.

Mr. Park Kang-seok, CEO of Volvo Trucks Korea, stated, “Efforts to create a sustainable world for the next generation is a responsibility that we all must take part in and share awareness.” He added, “I believe that the small and large actions taken by Volvo Trucks Korea, such as eco-campaigns, the digital transformation of operations, and the introduction of electric trucks will inspire the interest and participation of other companies and members of society.”

Meanwhile, Volvo Trucks has pioneered the mass production of large electric trucks as the first in the commercial vehicle industry since 2019, currently offering a total of six electric truck models, boasting the widest range of products in the industry. By the end of 2023, it held a 49% market share in the European market for large electric trucks over 16 tons, and its large electric truck ‘FH Electric’ was recognized as the ‘2024 Truck of the Year’ for its outstanding performance.

Additionally, in March 2023, Volvo Trucks Korea unveiled the FH Electric, the first large electric truck in the domestic commercial vehicle industry, and is actively working to ensure the prompt delivery of Volvo FH Electric to customers in the domestic market.
