BorgWarner announced on the 8th that it has entered into a strategic partnership with FinDreams Battery, a subsidiary of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD. Under this agreement, BorgWarner will secure localization rights for LFP battery packs equipped with FinDreams’ blade cells for commercial vehicles in Europe, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific, making it the only non-original equipment manufacturer (Non-OEM) local producer without a partnership with FinDreams. The contract lasts for a total of eight years.

In addition to receiving state-of-the-art blade cells for LFP battery pack production in the region, BorgWarner will also obtain a license to use intellectual property related to battery pack design and manufacturing processes from FinDreams Battery.

BorgWarner’s Chairman and CEO, Frederic Lissalde, stated, “LFP battery chemistry has become an increasingly important technology globally due to its price competitiveness, and there is a growing customer demand for battery packs equipped with LFP batteries.” He added, “We are pleased to contribute to the acceleration of electrification by developing cutting-edge cells and battery pack technology in collaboration with FinDreams Battery, leveraging over 20 years of experience and success in the mobility sector in China and Europe in the LFP battery field.”

Michael He, Chairman and CEO of FinDreams Battery, remarked, “At this complex geopolitical juncture and the starting point of LFP electrification for overseas commercial vehicles, the localization collaboration using BorgWarner and FinDreams Battery’s blade cell for battery packs maximizes the strengths of both companies, providing a variety of flexible options to overseas customers. This collaboration will also allow us to offer additional access to localized battery packs using FDB blade cells for international clients.” He added, “Based on our vision of ‘supplying safe batteries,’ FDB is committed to accelerating the electrification of overseas commercial vehicles through our collaboration with BorgWarner.”
