LG Uplus’s emotional management platform, ‘Dabda’, has steadily grown since its launch, attracting over 20,000 subscribers just six months in. This unique service, where an AI counselor provides comforting support to the modern individual grappling with worries, offers a differentiated experience to its users.

Launched in September last year, the ‘Dabda (Diary that Receives Replies)’ app allows users to write down their daily feelings like a diary. The AI counselor analyzes this and provides a reply. Users can feel a sense of communication and comfort through the responses from the AI counselor.

Since its launch, Dabda has seen a continuous increase in users, with 20,000 subscribers reported as of mid-March. The app has recorded approximately 22,000 downloads, and the ‘conversion rate’ of app visitors to service subscribers stands at about 86%. During the same period, 92,000 diary entries were accumulated on Dabda, averaging about 2.8 entries per user per week. This success is particularly notable as it was achieved through word-of-mouth rather than large-scale marketing or events. Indeed, Dabda has impressive ratings, achieving 4.9 on the App Store and 4.7 on the Play Store.

One of Dabda’s characteristics is its provision of tailored responses based on the user’s emotions. Users select their feelings from over 110 options through the app and write a diary entry of up to 2000 characters. Within 12 hours, they receive a reply from the AI counselor ‘Maring’.

Users can comfortably write about personal worries that might be difficult to share even with a professional counselor, and find solace through empathetic responses. For instance, if a user writes about having a busy day studying for exams, the AI counselor Maring might respond with, “It sounds like you’ve had a tough day all day long.”

LG Uplus plans to enhance the Dabda service using technologies like their self-developed AI ‘IXI’. Given that Dabda aims to be a ‘life platform’ assisting users in their daily lives, LG Uplus strategies to expand customer engagement through Dabda and provide differentiated user experiences by integrating with various platforms.

An Mi-hwa, Product Owner of LG Uplus’s Mind Control Squad, remarked, “We launched Dabda so that customers who were reluctant to express their feelings due to costs or psychological barriers could easily manage their emotions in daily life. Moving forward, we will continue to leverage self-developed AI technologies like IXI to evolve Dabda into a lifelong AI learning mate.”
