Solight Indigo Racing announced on the 12th that it has officially signed a sponsorship agreement with Kumho Tire.

The joining ceremony took place at the Solight Indigo Racing Camp in Bundang, attended by significant figures from both companies, including Yoon Jang-hyuk, Executive Director of G Marketing at Kumho Tire, Byeon Chang-hwan, Director of Racing at Hyundai-Sungwoo-Solight, and coach Lee Jae-woo.

As they prepare to participate in the ‘Hyundai N Festival eN1 Class’—the first electric vehicle race held in Korea—Solight Indigo Racing anticipates that this sponsorship will positively impact the team’s performance.

The Hyundai N Festival eN1 Class is part of the Hyundai N Festival, which is the largest single-make race in Korea. The races will utilize the ‘Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car,’ a high-performance racing vehicle designed by incorporating advanced electrification technologies, including a front and rear motor with a maximum output of 478 kW (650 horsepower) and a high-capacity 84.0 kWh battery to enhance driving performance and additional features for circuit racing.

Kumho Tire, a global tire company, achieved overall victory last year by winning the CJ Super Race Driver and Team Integrated Champion titles. They are recognized for their technology by supplying tires to the top classes of the Hyundai N Festival, the largest single-make racing event in the country.

Director Byeon Chang-hwan from Hyundai-Sungwoo-Solight expressed gratitude, saying, “We are very grateful that Kumho Tire decided to sponsor us. Especially, the full support from a global tire company will be a strong backing for a team participating in electric vehicle racing for the first time. We hope this agreement is not only beneficial for both companies but also serves as a good example for the development and expansion of motorsports in Korea.”

Yoon Jang-hyuk, Executive Director of G Marketing at Kumho Tire, stated, “We are very pleased to sign a sponsorship contract with Solight Indigo Racing, the best racing team in the country. This agreement will strengthen our trust and lay a foundation for future collaboration in domestic and international motorsports.”

Meanwhile, Solight Indigo Racing, affiliated with Hyundai-Sungwoo Group, celebrates its 27th anniversary this year and is undeniably one of the top teams in Korea. Notable achievements include winning the overall drivers’ championship in the 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia and finishing 2nd in the TCR Asia team overall standings, bolstering the status of South Korean motorsports. They also made impressive strides in European motorsports by being the first Asian team to compete in the full season of TCR Italy, breaking into the top 10.

Hyundai-Sungwoo Group comprises Hyundai-Sungwoo Holdings, a parent company, alloy wheel and foundry product manufacturer Hyundai-Sungwoo Casting, and Hyundai-Sungwoo Solight, specializing in automotive batteries.
