Volkswagen’s iconic model, the Golf, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, has surpassed cumulative sales of 50,000 units in Korea.
Since its launch in the Korean market in 2005, the Golf has recorded a cumulative sale of 50,089 units by March of this year. It is the first among imported compact hatchbacks to surpass the 50,000 units sold mark in Korea.
The Volkswagen Golf was first introduced in 1974 and has evolved through eight generations over the past 50 years. Known for its reasonable product qualities, practical space, robust driving performance, and solid foundations, it has been one of Volkswagen’s best-selling models, cherished globally for its longevity.
In Korea, the 5th generation Golf was officially launched alongside Volkswagen Korea’s full entry into the market, continuing its popularity as a high-quality premium compact car crafted with German engineering. In a market often viewed as a ‘desert for hatchbacks’, the Golf created a hatchback craze among customers who aspire to a European lifestyle.
Additionally, Volkswagen Korea has introduced the high-performance Golf GTI, which features an innovative DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) dual-clutch transmission and a powerful engine, offering Korean customers an even more dynamic driving experience. The Golf GTI has led the popularization of high-performance vehicles in the Korean market with its exceptional performance.
The reasons behind the Golf’s popularity in Korea include its reasonable pricing and maintenance costs, advanced technology that transcends vehicle classes, and the high-level driving performance typical of traditional German hatchbacks, all contributing to its widespread appeal and completeness.
From customers seeking a premium compact car suitable for everyday driving to automotive enthusiasts wanting a high-performance hot hatch, the Golf is praised as an iconic hatchback that encompasses all generations and tastes.
The current lineup available in Korea includes two models: Golf 2.0 TDI and Golf GTI. The Golf TDI stands out as a premium compact hatchback with excellent efficiency and solid fundamentals, while the Golf GTI is cherished as a performance icon with a high-powered TSI engine and precise handling.
To commemorate the Golf’s 50th anniversary and the milestone of 50,000 sales in Korea, Volkswagen Korea plans to launch various marketing activities this year to enable more customers to experience the charm of the Golf.
