‘3rd Generation New Panamera’

The Korean Automobile Journalists Association announced on the 8th that the Porsche 3rd generation New Panamera has been selected as the Car of the Month for May 2024.

The selection committee for the Car of the Year under the association evaluates newly released cars and partially modified models within a month, from the 1st to the end of the previous month, and announces the Car of the Month. The evaluation consists of five categories: ▲ Interior and exterior design and emotional quality ▲ Safety and convenience features ▲ Power performance ▲ Energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions ▲ Marketability and purchase intent.

Among the new cars unveiled last month, the BMW New X2, the New Mercedes-Maybach GLS, the upgraded Tesla Model 3, and the Porsche 3rd generation New Panamera were nominated for the Car of the Month in alphabetical order. After a fierce competition, the Porsche 3rd generation New Panamera was ultimately selected for the month with a score of 33.7 points (out of 50).

The Porsche 3rd generation New Panamera received an excellent score of 8 points (out of 10) in the power performance category, and scored 7.3 points in safety and convenience features, and 7 points in interior and exterior design and emotional quality.

Chairman Jeong Gi-yeon of the Car of the Year Selection Committee stated, “The new model, which underwent a complete overhaul in its third generation, is equipped with a more powerful E-Hybrid powertrain and a high-performance suspension system, combined with a more extensive range of digital features, impressive design, dynamic performance, and driving convenience, thus enhancing its marketability.”

The Korean Automobile Journalists Association has been selecting and announcing the Car of the Month since 2019, and last month, the BMW New 530e was honored as the Car of the Month.

The association announces the results of the Car of the Month selection via its official website. The vehicles chosen as Car of the Month receive a special privilege, allowing them to advance directly to the first round of the final review without undergoing the preliminary and final evaluations.

Meanwhile, the Korean Automobile Journalists Association consists of 58 media outlets, including major daily newspapers, broadcasting companies, news agencies, online media, and automotive magazines, with around 200 journalists affiliated with member organizations.

The Korean Automobile Journalists Association was established in August 2010 with the aim of contributing to the development of the automotive industry, fostering a sound automotive culture, improving the qualities of automotive journalists, and promoting mutual exchanges among members.

Each year, the association selects and announces the ‘Car of the Year (COTY)’ for South Korea’s best automobile, engages in discussions and announcements regarding automotive issues, and holds various events such as symposiums, seminars, tech tours, and award ceremonies for automotive professionals.
