KT takes the lead in enhancing network stability required in the AICT era.

On the 3rd, KT announced that it has established the first Internet 3 Center outside the metropolitan area in Busan. The Internet 3 Center began full operation last week.

The Internet 3 Center is designed to continuously provide essential internet services even when the main communication centers located in the metropolitan area (1st and 2nd Centers) are unable to operate due to disasters or power outages. This facility is directly connected to major internet equipment throughout the country and overseas communication networks.

In emergency situations, the Internet 3 Center functions as a Disaster Recovery (DR) Center, while during normal operations, it is structured to effectively distribute the traffic concentrated in the metropolitan area (Alive DR).

KT has simulated a scenario where both the 1st and 2nd Centers in the metropolitan area are inoperative, successfully validating that major portal services domestically and internationally, along with financial, media, and video services, can be provided through the 3rd Center. Additionally, it confirmed an average reduction of 18% in communication latency for global content like Netflix as the entire network structure improves through the Internet 3 Center.

With the opening of this Internet 3 Center, KT has laid the foundation for significantly enhancing network reliability by triple-reducing key internet facilities. The company plans to strengthen cooperation in the network sector with domestic and international internet operators to provide customers with stable and faster internet services.

Meanwhile, as the demand for the Internet 3 Center’s connections is expected to continuously rise due to the expansion of AI and ICT technology and the growing need for stability among telecommunications and platform/content companies, major content providers like Naver Cloud are also utilizing the Internet 3 Center to split their service routes into three to stabilize their traffic.

Gwon Hye-jin, head of KT’s Network Strategy Division, stated, “As every aspect of people’s lives becomes connected through the internet, the social demand for network stability continues to increase. We will continuously drive innovation in our network infrastructure to provide high-quality internet services to KT customers.”
