“According to fire safety regulations, all BMW and MINI vehicles will be equipped with fire extinguishers upon delivery.”

BMW Group Korea will provide specially manufactured fire extinguishers in all newly released BMW and MINI vehicles to comply with revisions to the “Fire Facility Installation and Management Act.”

According to the revised law, all vehicles with more than five seats manufactured, imported, or sold after December 1 will be required to have a fire extinguisher installed. BMW Group Korea is the first in the imported vehicle industry to proactively equip all vehicles with extinguishers ahead of the law’s implementation.

The extinguishers installed in BMW and MINI vehicles are automobile-compatible extinguishers that have received formal approval from the Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute (KFI). These products have undergone rigorous testing, including vibration and high-temperature tests, on top of the usual performance inspections applied to standard extinguishers. Moreover, they are equipped with a patented jet nozzle that expands the spraying angle by up to eight times and enhances firefighting capability by up to 30% compared to conventional extinguishers. Furthermore, the extinguishing powder used is made from eco-friendly materials certified by the Ministry of Environment, considering resources recycling and reduction of harmful substances.

To prevent secondary damage from collisions, the fire extinguisher case is designed for fixed installation and has successfully passed crash tests by the Korea Automobile Research Institute. Additionally, it is made from flame-retardant materials to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, on December 12 of last month, BMW Group Korea took the initiative to disclose the battery manufacturers for electric vehicles before the government’s public recommendation, becoming the first in the imported car industry to do so. On the 22nd, they also produced and distributed the BMW Electric Vehicle Safety Guide. Moreover, they have completed the supply of ‘fire kits’ (AVD extinguisher, fire blanket) to all electric vehicle charging stations and 134 official showrooms and service centers nationwide, showcasing their active efforts for customer safety.
