The space has become larger, yet it maintains the proportions that highlight the sports car genes. This is the ‘second-generation Macan,’ transformed into an electric vehicle.
Porsche Korea held a launch event for the second-generation Macan on the 25th at the ‘Porsche Studio Songpa’ exhibition hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The Macan is a mid-size SUV from Porsche that has been loved by consumers for the past decade since its market debut in 2014.
The ‘Macan’ has undergone a radical transformation into its second generation by eliminating the engine altogether. It will be sold solely as a pure electric vehicle powered by electric motors and batteries. With this transformation into an electric vehicle, the trunk capacity has significantly increased. The internal combustion engine model had a trunk capacity of 488 liters, but in the new model, the addition of the frunk increases the trunk capacity to 540 liters.
A wide and low hood along with prominent fenders can be seen. The separated headlights reveal the charisma of the Macan Electric. Furthermore, the line that runs across the lower part of the bumper exclusive to the Macan Electric Turbo differentiates it from the standard Macan Electric. By adopting frameless doors, it aims for a sleekness befitting a high-performance sports car.
The Macan Electric is equipped with Porsche’s first PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform in preparation for the upcoming electrification era. With the PPE platform, the Macan Electric features a longer wheelbase and substantially shorter front and rear tracks, measuring 4,784 × 1,938 × 1,622 mm, indicating a significant increase compared to the previous size of 4,725 × 1,925 × 1,595 mm. The wheelbase has expanded to 2,893 mm, only 2 mm less than the Cayenne.
A 12.9-inch curved driver display, a 10.9-inch center display, and a passenger display are all equipped. If the passenger uses the 10.9-inch passenger display to watch YouTube, the driver’s view becomes obscured, preventing visibility from the driver’s side.
The new infotainment system is based on the Android OS. The Porsche app center has also been introduced, allowing users to easily download and use the desired apps. Now, users can conveniently enjoy their preferred content inside the car, marking an era where cars evolve into mobility.
The head-up display image is projected 10 meters ahead of the driver at a size of 87 inches. This is the widest head-up display currently available on the market. The head-up display enhances driving focus by showing lane guidance and maintaining a distance for adaptive cruise control.
The Macan Electric comes equipped with a high-capacity 100 kWh battery. It features 12 prismatic modules, each with 15 cells. With ultra-fast charging at 270 kW, charging from 10% to 80% is completed in just 21 minutes, significantly reducing charging time.
The Macan Electric 4 has a maximum system output of 387 hp, which can reach up to 408 hp using overboost, with a maximum torque of 66.3 kg.m. Its top speed is 220 km/h, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
The Macan Electric Turbo showcases impressive performance with a maximum system output of 584 hp, reaching 639 hp using overboost and a maximum torque of 115.2 kg.m. It can achieve a top speed of 260 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, demonstrating its sports car prowess.
Equipped with the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, which includes rear axle steering with a maximum angle of 5 degrees, it allows easy escape from sharp corners or tight spaces. The drag coefficient has significantly decreased from 0.35 to 0.25, showcasing its true sports car characteristics.
The driving range is 613 km for the Macan Electric 4 and 591 km for the Macan Electric Turbo based on WLTP standards. The starting price in Germany ranges from €84,100 (approximately KRW 125,390,000) to €114,600 (approximately KRW 170,860,000).
The vehicle is scheduled to be launched in South Korea by the end of this year.
