‘Porsche Macan Electric’

Michelin has announced that it will supply three new tire types optimized for Porsche’s fully electric SUV, the Macan Electric.

For over half a century, Michelin and Porsche have collaborated on major projects to push the boundaries of innovation. The ‘Porsche Macan Electric’, unveiled last January, is Porsche’s first all-electric SUV model, and both companies have evolved together with every generation of Macan since its launch in 2014. Michelin expressed confidence as a leading and preferred original equipment tire supplier by providing three types of tires for Porsche’s new strategic model.

Custom Tires for the New ‘Porsche Macan Electric’

The emergence of electric vehicles has brought changes to the tire industry. Michelin leveraged its deep technical knowledge and expertise in electric vehicle tires to meet the stringent design requirements of the new Porsche Macan Electric model. This is the result of years of research and the technical experience Michelin has gained over eight seasons in the Formula E Championship. Porsche has also been participating in Formula E since 2019.

High-performance electric vehicle tires must not only match the performance levels of internal combustion engine vehicles but also address issues such as driving range and road noise during operation. Additionally, the added weight from the battery increases the vehicle’s total weight, putting more pressure on the tires and impacting their lifespan. Electric motors can deliver maximum torque from a standstill, making driving performance a critical factor and technical challenge. In designing the three new tires for the Macan Electric, Michelin considered all these characteristics of electric vehicles while respecting Porsche’s unique attributes.

Michelin Pilot Sport EV NE0

The Michelin Pilot Sport EV NE0 is a summer tire specially developed for the all-wheel-drive Porsche Macan Electric. The tire’s internal structure and rubber are designed to deliver perfect driving performance and withstand high outputs. Marked with Porsche’s exclusive special marking ‘NE0’, this tire consistently delivers top performance, irrespective of its lifespan, based on Michelin’s expertise in optimizing rolling resistance for enhanced driving range and maximum grip on both wet and dry surfaces.

Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV NE0

The Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV NE0 is a winter tire designed to provide high safety and top performance in cold weather, wet roads, and snowy conditions. The tread’s siped rubber blocks are designed to offer better driving performance on slippery surfaces and to control braking distances effectively, while the reinforced sidewalls provide the durability unique to SUV tires. You can identify the winter tire certification mark 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) on the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV NE0.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 NE0

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 NE0 is an all-season tire that balances the advantages of summer and winter tires for high-end and sports vehicles. It excels in hot environments and maintains performance even when temperatures drop below 7°C. This reduces the hassle for drivers who typically switch to winter tires in November and back to summer tires by the end of March. It can also be a good option for drivers looking for a true winter tire, as they can adapt to weather changes while driving in extreme conditions.

The three new tires designed for the Porsche Macan Electric can be broadly utilized by all drivers and suit various road and requirement conditions. Furthermore, they fulfill the core needs of the Macan for precise and sporty handling performance, not only limited to internal combustion vehicles but also essential for pure electric vehicles.
