Samsung SDI participated in the ’32nd China Cycle Show 2024′ held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from May 5 (Sunday) to May 8 (Wednesday), showcasing its competitive edge in cylindrical batteries.

The ‘China Cycle Show’ is one of the world’s top four bicycle and motorcycle exhibitions hosted by the Chinese Bicycle Association. This year, more than 1,700 related companies participated, marking an increase of over 40% compared to the previous year.

Under the slogan ‘Already, All Ready! (Samsung SDI prepared for everything in motion)’, Samsung SDI introduced a diverse lineup of cylindrical batteries optimized for micro-mobility electrification.

Samsung SDI unveiled various models of the 21700 cylindrical batteries currently in supply (21mm in diameter, 70mm in height). The high-capacity model suitable for long-distance travel boasts a capacity increase of over 10% compared to previous versions, utilizing high-nickel cathode materials containing over 90% nickel, while long-life batteries using new materials ensure a lifespan of over 4,000 cycles. This product also supports fast charging.

In addition, Samsung SDI plans to target the micro-mobility market with products featuring Tabless design and next-generation 46mm batteries. The Tabless design significantly enhances output performance by integrating tabs and electrodes through precision equipment, thus expanding the current path.

According to market research firm TSR, Samsung SDI ranked first in the electric bicycle battery market with a 31% market share in 2023. The electric bicycle battery market was estimated at about 1 billion units last year, with an annual growth rate of 4%, and it is expected to grow even more this year.

Meanwhile, the BoT (Battery of Things) exhibition zone highlights the importance and technological value of batteries, which are the key driving force in the micro-mobility market. Additionally, the exhibition showcased Samsung SDI’s ESG management activities as an eco-friendly company, evidenced by its RE100 implementation plans and its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the 19th time.
