On the 15th, SK Telecom announced that it is recruiting applicants for the sixth cohort of its AI talent development program, the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’.

The ‘SKT AI Fellowship’ is designed to help university students studying AI gain practical work experience, enabling them to grow into AI experts. SK Telecom has been sponsoring this program for six years since 2019.

Participants in the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’ will work with data from real corporate environments, carrying out research alongside current developers and receiving direct mentoring from them, effectively simulating a real-world development atmosphere.

To become a global AI company, SK Telecom is accelerating AI technology research and development, including research projects focusing on generative AI, such as LLM and multimodal AI for this sixth cohort of the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’.

The specific research fields offered include ▲ Generative AI ▲ Computer Vision and Media ▲ AI in Network Infrastructure. Participants will have the opportunity to choose one of the three technology domains to carry out their research projects.

Through the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’, SK Telecom also provides networking opportunities for AI talent. In February, the company organized a homecoming day for program graduates, establishing both online and offline channels to facilitate interaction among various talents active in the AI field.

Furthermore, alumni of the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’ benefit from passing the initial screening when applying for the Junior Talent recruitment at SK Telecom. Currently, SK Telecom conducts competency tests and coding assessments (for development positions) as part of the written screening for junior talent recruitment.

University students wishing to participate in the sixth cohort of the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’ must form a team of three or fewer and submit their research proposals via the program website (www.sktaifellowship.com) by May 6.

The selected teams will work on ongoing research projects led by SK Telecom from May to October, each team receiving research funding and rewards of up to 10 million KRW.

SK Telecom is actively promoting the commercialization of each project undertaken in this year’s ‘SKT AI Fellowship’, assisting participants in exhibiting their work at domestic and international trade fairs to ensure tangible outcomes.

For example, the fifth cohort of the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’ last year authored papers based on their projects and filed multiple patents, achieving noteworthy results by commercializing some technologies and models within SK Telecom services.

An Jung-hwan, responsible for corporate culture at SK Telecom, stated, “I hope the participants of the ‘SKT AI Fellowship’ can experience the vibrant real-world environment and gain solid practical experience to grow into future AI talent.” He added, “SK Telecom will continue to present various programs to foster future AI professionals.”
