Cell to Pack Battery

LG Energy Solution will participate in the largest secondary battery industry exhibition in Korea, ‘InterBattery 2024’, held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, from the 6th to the 8th of March.

The core theme of LG Energy Solution’s exhibition will be ‘Customer Value Beyond Batteries’, showcasing innovative technologies and a diverse product portfolio based on overwhelming technological leadership.

This year, LG Energy Solution will unveil its newly developed pouch-type CTP (Cell to Pack) technology for the first time. Also on display will be an Isuzu ELF electric commercial vehicle equipped with LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical cells, modules, packs, as well as technologies like Mid-Nickel pouch cells and LFP ESS cells.

Now in its 12th edition, InterBattery is an industrial exhibition organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, in collaboration with the Korea Battery Industry Association. This year, a total of 579 companies, including major domestic secondary battery firms and companies related to materials, equipment, and components, will participate.

LG Energy Solution’s exhibition space will be the largest among participants, covering a total of 540 m2 (60 booths), divided into different sections: Mobility Zone, IT & New Application Zone, Core Technology Zone, New Business Zone, and Sustainability Zone.

As soon as you enter the venue, the centerpiece of the exhibition will feature LG Energy Solution’s newly unveiled pouch-type Cell to Pack (CTP) technology, mounted on a realistically sized car mock-up showcasing the new battery technology at a glance.

CTP technology is an advanced pack design that has gained attention in the electric vehicle battery market recently. It eliminates the module stage from the existing battery construction and directly assembles cells into the pack, enhancing energy density while reducing battery weight and cost.

LG Energy Solution’s pouch-type Cell to Pack retains the lightweight characteristics of pouch cells, while increasing pack rigidity and applying proven thermal transfer prevention technologies to enhance stability. By simplifying the components that compose the pack and the manufacturing process, costs are reduced, enhancing price competitiveness.

In the IT & New Application Zone, a small pouch cell with a Mid-Nickel composition will be unveiled for the first time, enhancing price competitiveness. This product can operate at high voltage and is designed primarily for use in IT devices like laptops, achieving both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Located in the Mobility Zone, the Isuzu ELF mio EV truck will also be a key focal point. The ELF EV is Isuzu’s first electric commercial vehicle, traditionally known as a leader in the commercial vehicle market. The vehicle is equipped with LG Energy Solution’s cells, modules, packs, and battery management systems (BMS), marking it as the first model to integrate all of LG’s cylindrical pack and BMS technologies.

Additionally, products such as the JF1 DC-Link, the first in the LFP standardized power grid ESS lineup, and the new residential ESS product, enblock S, will be displayed, along with next-generation battery technologies including solid-state batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, and lithium-metal batteries, showcasing LG Energy Solution’s diverse product portfolio and technological capabilities ranging from affordable to premium options.

Through this exhibition, LG Energy Solution will introduce its Battery Management Total Solution (BMTS) business, which extends beyond battery manufacturing to deliver new experiences and values to customers.

The Battery Management Total Solution represents an evolved concept of existing battery management systems (BMS), providing services like specialized safety diagnostics, status estimation software, cloud services, and solutions suitable for future mobility (SDVs) throughout the entire battery lifecycle.

Leveraging over 30 years of accumulated experience, LG Energy Solution plans to secure overwhelming technological leadership in the BMS business through differentiated analytical algorithms developed for their specific needs, thereby infinitely expanding their business territory.

Moreover, new businesses will be introduced through the New Business Zone, including AVEL’s renewable energy power network integration management and KooRoo’s battery swapping station (BSS) for electric two-wheelers, as well as the comprehensive diagnostic service for electric vehicle batteries called B-Lifecare.

As a global leader in the eco-friendly battery industry, LG Energy Solution will also present its unique ESG management strategies aimed at creating sustainable value.

LG Energy Solution remarked, “InterBattery 2024 presents an opportunity to experience LG Energy Solution’s overwhelming technology leadership through innovative products and technologies that will lead the future,” adding, “Attendees can expect differentiated customer value through vivid experiential content and exceptional exhibition setups.”
