Continental will unveil the world’s first Crystal Center Display at CES 2024.

This display, featuring a frameless translucent exterior made of crystal, proposes new possibilities for integrating minimalist luxury into automotive interiors.

The 10-inch display, equipped with advanced micro LED technology, allows for unprecedented levels of brightness and contrast, with the micro LED panel providing a mesmerizing illusion of content floating within the crystal body. This innovative display is a collaborative development between Continental and Swarovski Mobility.

Boris Mergel, Head of Continental’s UX Division, stated, “Continental aims to make the Crystal Center Display a core component, focusing on innovations for future premium automobiles that evoke interest and emotions. We are transforming displays from mere information exposure to the realm of highly personalized user experiences.”

The unique three-dimensional faceted cut developed by Swarovski Mobility not only captivates attention but also emphasizes an elegant appearance. Furthermore, the striking placement of the central information display offers designers a fresh approach to applying minimalist aesthetics in luxury automotive interiors.

The Crystal Center Display, as a key control element, plays a central role in the operation and display of information. Its translucent, floating appearance activates in-car virtual assistance systems in ways previously unseen, navigating the boundary between technology and intuitive interaction. This expands into an emotional brand experience through human-machine interfaces that enhance the interaction between people and vehicles.

Continental collaborated with Swarovski Mobility on this unique blend of technology and aesthetics, prioritizing the development of volumetric crystal panels characterized by their unique polished surfaces. Experts from Swarovski Mobility devised a delicate yet highly durable crystal housing that meets optical and technical challenges for in-car use, allowing drivers and passengers to view the center console behind a strikingly transparent and colorful crystal.

Peter Beitman, Senior Vice President at Swarovski Mobility B2B, remarked, “The Crystal Center Display is a combination of innovative design elements implemented through production and process technologies alongside Continental, making it both technically and visually impressive. Swarovski’s crystal is a crucial element for interaction within the car interface, extending beyond mere interior design.”

Continental’s engineers utilized cutting-edge micro LED technology to project the display onto the tinted crystal panel, all seamlessly merged into a single device to create the illusion of content floating. With self-emitting pixels, the micro LED display offers significantly superior brightness and contrast compared to similar technologies. This display has been recognized for its technical features and integration of innovative, minimalist design, winning an innovation award in the advanced mobility category at CES 2024.

Meanwhile, Continental will participate in CES 2024, which is being held in Las Vegas from January 9 to 12. They will showcase a variety of the latest mobility technologies at their dedicated booth located at Central Plaza, directly across from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
