Kakao Mobility will introduce a navigation function reflecting user-preferred routes in Kakao Navi.

With this new feature, when users input previously traveled starting and ending points, they can receive recommendations for ‘previously traveled routes’ or ‘frequently traveled routes’. This can be compared at a glance with existing navigation options provided by Kakao Navi, like ‘recommended routes’, ‘freeways’, ‘shortest time’, and ‘prefer big roads’, including travel time, distance, and toll for routes they have taken before.

Additional information such as routes taken on weekdays (or weekends) in the morning (or afternoon, night) over the last three months is displayed at the bottom of the route card, helping users choose the optimal route according to their needs.

Kakao Mobility plans to continuously enhance route guidance based on preferred routes, including providing navigation that reflects likable paths when exploring routes that users have never traveled to before. The analysis will give weight to preferred waypoints previously visited frequently within the routes explored. This is expected to enable personalized navigation that reflects favored sections while avoiding unwanted ones, even for routes with no prior travel history.

Preferred route guidance is available by subscribing to the ‘Driving Record’ service within the Kakao Navi app. By subscribing to the Driving Record service, users can receive insurance discounts based on driving scores, as well as access monthly reports of driving distances, visited places, and other records.

Lee Seung-won, head of the navigation service team at Kakao Mobility, stated, “By reflecting users’ demands, we’ve added familiar routes like roads often used and personal shortcuts as navigation options for each user. We will continue to listen to user voices and strive for the enhancement of the preferred route function and differentiation in navigation quality.”
