Mercedes-Benz Korea announced that it was awarded the ‘Golden Star’ at the ‘2023 ECCK Sustainability Awards’ held on the 10th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno, Seoul, for its outstanding ESG activities and sustainability policies.

Among the participants were Georg Wilhelm Schmidt, the German Ambassador to Korea, Matthias Weitler, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Korea, and various officials from corporate and government sectors. The ‘ECCK Sustainability Awards’ are organized by the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea to recognize the efforts of numerous European and Korean companies committed to creating a sustainable future. It was initiated last year and this year marks the second edition of the awards.

The European Chamber of Commerce in Korea selects companies in three categories: ‘Green Step’, ‘Blue Horizon’, and ‘Golden Star’, based on evaluations of sustainability vision, innovation, investment, and effectiveness, as well as considering ESG criteria, CO2 reduction, and company size.

Mercedes-Benz Korea was highly commended for actively communicating with various stakeholders in the community and internal employees to raise awareness of sustainability and ensure practical actions are taken. Notably, the company has undertaken various social contribution activities to foster coexistence with domestic society and has conducted traffic safety and environmental education programs aimed at children, the future leaders of society.

To continue its sustainability strategy, ‘Ambition 2039’, from its headquarters in Germany, Mercedes-Benz Korea is implementing various programs for carbon neutrality. Furthermore, it has established the ‘Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee’ in collaboration with domestic subsidiaries and 11 official dealers to engage in five proactive programs aimed at creating a healthier environment and society.

Lee Eun-jung, Executive Director of the Public Relations Division of Mercedes-Benz Korea, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “We are pleased to be acknowledged for the various efforts made by Mercedes-Benz towards a sustainable future with carbon neutrality. In the future, we will share the values of sustainability with more stakeholders and vigorously carry out activities that contribute to domestic society and the future.”
