Lamborghini has unveiled a special video that explores the dynamic relationship between design and aerodynamics of the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model, the Revuelto.

Lamborghini’s design is unique and inimitable, and the current models have evolved over 60 years of inspiration and forward-thinking creativity. However, beyond design, the essence of Lamborghini’s legacy and brand DNA lies in performance, with the design studio and research and development team focusing on aerodynamics for innovation. This has contributed to the creation of new masterpieces like Revuelto, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model by merging art and science.

The special video recently released by Lamborghini with the theme ‘Mastering Aerodynamics Beyond Design’ showcases the interplay between Lamborghini’s design and aerodynamics. It features insights from Mitja Borkert, the head of design at Automobili Lamborghini, who reflects on the vital inspirations and driving forces inherent in the Lamborghini brand DNA.

Mitja Borkert explains in the video: “My inspiration for car design comes from various sources: music, art, other cars I love, memories, and so on. We always take a step beyond the future. We sketch, push boundaries, refine, contemplate, and set trends. Lamborghini design has rhythm. Speed, timing, all elements (parts) connect and create a whole work of art.”

The essence of Revuelto encapsulates aerodynamic features that are evident at first glance. However, this is not just about appearance. It is inherent in the tension of each line and the muscularity and expansiveness of each surface, but also embodies a sensitivity to smoother, more human forms that embrace airflow. Design must have a perfect collaborative relationship with aerodynamics, which is what we believe.

Mitja Borkert leads a team of over 60 design experts, and in the research and development section, Ugo Ricchio collaborates with seven engineers specialized in aerodynamics under the supervision of Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer, Ruben More. Both the design and R&D teams continuously collaborate, challenge themselves, and test to yield results.

Ugo Ricchio comments in the video: “Revuelto is a masterpiece of integrated design and aerodynamics. Observing how Revuelto interacts with airflow from all angles feels exceptionally stylish. The high-energy air that passes through the vehicle’s front fender and crosses along the side offers evidence of the design connecting with the Revuelto at every moment. We maintain a balance between form and performance. Even the door handles are designed to optimize airflow.

Looking at the vehicle’s roof line, it maximizes interior space for passengers while specifically sculpting the central area to optimize airflow, reduce drag, and push air to the rear of the vehicle. The three positions of Revuelto’s rear wing maximize efficiency, speed, handling, and downforce, further proving Lamborghini’s aerodynamic innovation while making Revuelto’s contours appealing and engaging from all perspectives. To define Revuelto, it’s the ‘perfect balance of form and performance.’ Design has allowed us to master aerodynamics.”
