Polestar has unveiled the ‘Polestar Synergy’, a full-size production of last year’s design competition winner, which is on display during the 2023 Munich Auto Show at the Polestar Munich Space.

Additionally, Polestar has formalized a partnership with the world-renowned toy company Mattel’s brand Hot Wheels. Starting with next year’s Polestar design competition, Hot Wheels will expand this collaboration by releasing Matchbox versions of Polestar’s production vehicles as diecast models.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, stated, “I sincerely congratulate the winners of the Polestar design competition. Their vision and collaboration with the Polestar design team have resulted in the creation of a truly remarkable vehicle.” He added, “Through our collaboration with Mattel next year, we will be able to showcase the Polestar brand and the Polestar design competition to a broader audience, proving that electric vehicles can be as exciting as traditional internal combustion cars, whether in the real world or as toys.”

The ‘Polestar Synergy’ combines the designs of three winning entries from the 2022 Polestar design competition, developed in collaboration with the Polestar design team over the course of more than six months.

The theme of last year’s Polestar design competition was ‘Performance’, challenging participants to visually express a new form of ‘performance’ fitting for the electric vehicle era, moving away from traditional fuel-consuming performance while conveying advanced technological narratives in a sustainable manner.

The judging panel selected multiple winning designs for the first time in the competitive category out of over 600 entries. In the external design category, ‘Swapnil Desai’ and ‘Debashish Dashmukh’, both based in Paris, France, were chosen; while in the interior design category, Yingshang Li was selected.

Dashmukh’s design focused on creating space inspired by graceful shapes, while Desai’s work emphasized the use of materials that allow for technological upgrades and beautiful aging over time. The interior features a performance-centric cockpit providing a new experience of comfort and control, reminiscent of floating.

With a height of just 107mm and a length of 4,560mm, the Polestar Synergy achieves an astonishing supercar silhouette based on unique proportions and details not found in existing brands.

The Polestar Synergy is set to be displayed in various Polestar Spaces, starting with the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, California, on October 7 of this year.

Roberto Stanić, Mattel’s Executive Vice President and Global Head of Automotive, remarked, “Just as Polestar is redefining the boundaries of electric performance and automotive innovation, Hot Wheels has continuously pushed the limits of imagination and design. This collaboration with Polestar embodies the determination, drive, and passion that defines car design at Hot Wheels, and we are looking forward to the challenges next year.”
