Genesis has unveiled the updated GV80 and the first-ever Genesis Coupe-style SUV, the GV80 Coupe.

Prior to the launch of the GV80 and GV80 Coupe, Genesis held a “Genesis GV80 & GV80 Coupe Media Preview” event on Tuesday, the 26th, at Genesis Suji, showcasing the vehicles to domestic media for the first time.

The GV80, launched in January 2020, has sold over 170,000 units globally, making it the first SUV from the Genesis brand that has led the domestic luxury SUV market. It has provided distinctive value through the perfect harmony of premium sensibility and cutting-edge technology.

The newly unveiled GV80 is a mid-cycle update presented after 3 years and 9 months, inheriting the dynamic and elegant design of the existing GV80 while featuring a spacious interior with modern sensibilities and various convenience features for a new mobility experience.

Highlights of the GV80 include an exterior that adds luxurious details to the existing elegance and style, an interior that combines a high-tech sense with the beauty of space, and safety and convenience features that provide a comfortable driving experience.

That day, Genesis also revealed the GV80 Coupe, the brand’s first coupe-style SUV.

The GV80 Coupe is a luxury SUV that maximizes dynamism based on Genesis’ design philosophy of “dynamic elegance.” Since the concept model was revealed at the Genesis House in New York in April this year, it has garnered significant global interest with its impactful design.

The GV80 Coupe inherits the elegance and robustness of the base model while featuring a dynamic and daring silhouette, an interior with high-tech and sporty feelings, a newly added 415 horsepower gasoline 3.5 turbo 48V electric supercharger (e-S/C) engine, and unique design and performance applications exclusive to coupes to maximize dynamic and sporty sensations.

Genesis CBO (Chief Brand Officer) Graham Russell mentioned at the event, “Today marks an important milestone in the growth of the Genesis brand with the addition of the GV80 and GV80 Coupe to the Genesis lineup. Amidst a time when the boundaries of luxury are constantly redefined, we believe the GV80 and GV80 Coupe will respond to the evolving needs of dynamic customers.”

The exterior of the GV80 features an elegant style that maintains the sophistication of the existing GV80 while enhancing luxury details.

The front boasts a crest grille featuring a double mesh structure and smoother corner lines than before to create a refined image. The emblematic dual headlamps of Genesis have been reborn with MLA (Micro Lens Array) technology, demonstrating the perfect harmony of cutting-edge technology and design.

Furthermore, the front bumper with a wide skid plate creates a solid and robust sports SUV image, while the newly designed emblem with a guilloche pattern emphasizes luxury.

The newly applied chrome line extends from the front bumper along the sides to the rear bumper, completing a powerful character.

The new wheels, featuring two differently finished spokes that create a multi-spoke feel, along with the 22-inch wheels that reinterpret Genesis’ dual-row pattern, provide a stable yet sophisticated appearance.

The rear has adopted hidden-type mufflers, replacing exposed exhausts with a V-shaped chrome design inspired by Genesis’ crest grille, creating a futuristic image.

The bottom of the rear bumper is finished in a slim body color, adding a wide and stable image along with a bold impression.

Genesis will offer a total of 12 exterior colors, including a new color called Storm Green (glossy/matte).

The interior of the GV80 has been designed to provide a high-level luxury experience by adding high-tech sensibilities to the Korean beauty of ‘whitespace.’

Genesis aimed to create an interior that offers a relaxed space and the best value for customers’ everyday lives.

The GV80 emphasizes a comfortable and refined feel with a horizontal layout that integrates the cluster and AVN screen into a 27-inch integrated wide display, presenting an image of a sophisticated, high-tech space.

The center fascia applies a seamless design to enhance luxury sensibilities, while a touch-type air conditioning unit improves usability and convenience.

The electronic shift dial (SBW) and integrated controller adopt a crystal design, providing a comfortable grip while maximizing visual luxury.

Moreover, features like a hood cover with a new Genesis emblem, a two-tone color steering wheel, crash pads, and center consoles made of high-quality materials such as leather, aluminum, and real wood enhance the interior’s refinement.

Additionally, improvements like a better visibility wireless charging tray for smartphones and increased size cup holders for the console reflect detailed consumer needs to enhance usability.

The GV80 will be available in a total of 5 interior colors, including 3 new shades: Earth Brown, Bordeaux Brown, and Glacier White.

Alongside, the GV80 Coupe, conceived with practicality and sportiness for various lifestyles, was introduced as a high-performance coupe-like SUV.

The GV80 Coupe features coupe DNA added to the design and performance of the base model, reflecting Genesis’ commitment to creating a vehicle that is both high-performing and emotional through perfect harmony of contrasting elements.

The exterior of the GV80 Coupe exemplifies perfect balance and sleek design reinforced by a dynamic and daring silhouette.

The front headlamps adopt MLA (Micro Lens Array) type LED lamps similar to the GV80. The crest grille features a “Double Layered G-Matrix” pattern radiator grille to emphasize its high-performance image.

Moreover, the extended air intakes and active air flaps, in addition to four air vents, create optimal airflow for engine room cooling, while completing the aggressive front bumper design, showcasing the coupe SUV’s bold allure.

The side profile, which seems poised to take off at any moment, is striking. The perfect harmony between the parabolic line crossing the body and the low gently falling roof line completes a robust and dynamic exterior design.

Additional elements such as a roof rack designed along the sleek roof line, a sporty window line, and coupe-exclusive 20 and 22-inch wheels highlight the sporty side profile styles.

The rear features LED surface-emitting rear combination lamps and a wide integrated auxiliary brake light applied to the tailgate, showcasing distinct design elements, while the downward-styled rear spoiler further enhances the sportiness.

Additionally, the combination of the sporty rear bumper and dual twin mufflers in the shape of the crest grille represents the high-performance coupe SUV image. (Note: The dual twin muffler is exclusive to the gasoline 3.5 turbo 48V electric supercharger model; twin mufflers are applied to the 2.5 turbo and 3.5 turbo models.)

Meanwhile, the GV80 Coupe will be available in a total of 13 exterior colors, including the coupe-exclusive color of Bering Blue.

The interior of the GV80 Coupe features a unique design that embodies a sporty feel.

The two-tone D-cut steering wheel creates a sporty and sophisticated interior image, while unique pattern carbon garnishes and coupe-exclusive patterns and stitching on the seats provide a dynamic driving experience.

Moreover, the metal applied to the brake and acceleration pedals maximizes the high-performance sensibility. (Note: This is exclusive to the gasoline 3.5 turbo 48V electric supercharger model.)

The GV80 Coupe offers a total of 6 coupe interior package options to create personalized spaces.

Additionally, the GV80 Coupe has optimized layout in the engine room and chassis and included rear seat reclining functions to ensure competitive interior living space. It also has optimized trunk packaging and folding luggage shelves to offer ample cargo space, maintaining sufficient space and storage despite the sloping roof typical of coupe styles.

Genesis operates the GV80 with two engine lineups: a gasoline 2.5 turbo with a maximum output of 304 horsepower and a maximum torque of 43.0 (kgf・m), and a gasoline 3.5 turbo with a maximum output of 380 horsepower and a maximum torque of 54.0 (kgf・m).

The GV80 Coupe introduces a new gasoline 3.5 turbo 48V electric supercharger (e-S/C) engine to provide dynamic driving performance suitable for its design, expanding its lineup to three options.

The newly added gasoline 3.5 turbo 48V electric supercharger engine compresses air through a motor in lower RPM ranges and then further compresses it for supply, allowing for improved acceleration response in low and mid-speed ranges by advancing the maximum torque point compared to the 3.5 turbo engine.

The gasoline 3.5 turbo 48V electric supercharger engine boasts 415 horsepower, which is a 35 horsepower increase compared to the existing 3.5 turbo engine model, providing comfortable power performance.

The GV80 and GV80 Coupe feature advanced driving technologies that deliver convenient driving stability and a comfortable ride, including:

• A preview electronic control suspension that intelligently anticipates road surface information and provides optimal ride comfort through suitable suspension control.

• A second-generation engine mounting control unit that reduces driving vibrations and enhances ride comfort through engine mount control suitable for various road conditions.

• Wind stability control that improves high-speed stability through steering and braking control in case of strong winds during high-speed driving.

• Auto terrain mode that automatically selects the appropriate driving mode based on AI analysis of the road surface.

Additionally, improvements in sound insulation, such as noise-absorbing tires, sound-absorbing materials, and enhanced tailgate soundproofing, ensure best-in-class quietness.

The GV80 Coupe also includes specifications that enhance driving emotion and performance, featuring an active sound design (ASD) that recreates the exhaust sound of high-displacement sports coupes and flex brake features that allow drivers to customize brake pedal responsiveness.

Moreover, the GV80 Coupe 3.5 turbo 48V electric supercharger model includes specialized high-performance features such as a “Sports+” mode for high-limit driving, launch control for customers testing the vehicle’s limits, and high-performance gauges displaying oil temperature, torque, and turbo pressure for an agile and dynamic driving experience.

The GV80 and GV80 Coupe have been enhanced with additional convenience and safety specifications to match Genesis’ luxurious SUV offerings while retaining the existing GV80’s high product value.

Genesis has equipped these models with advanced features that provide an elevated customer experience, such as fully automatic independent air conditioning to control temperatures, modes, and airflow independently for each row; digital key 2; an in-vehicle fingerprint authentication system; UV sterilization for the center armrest storage; heated armrest; an in-car fragrance system; and touch-type outside handle sensors for the second row.

Furthermore, the GV80 and GV80 Coupe feature strong braking performance with mono-block calipers and a total of 10 airbags, including center airbags for the front seats, enhancing safety.

In terms of driving convenience features, new implementations include a digital center mirror (DCM) displaying rearward images, built-in camera 2 with enhanced resolution and recording time, and a tactile grip detection system (HOD) for easy ADAS warning cancellation. Other smart driving aids include lane-keeping assist 2 (LFA 2), front collision avoidance assist 2 (FCA 2), blind-spot collision avoidance assist (BCA), rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist (RCCA), remote smart parking assist 2 (RSPA 2), highway driving assist 2 (HDA 2), and front/side/rear parking collision avoidance assist (PCA-F/S/R). These advanced driver assistance systems enhance safety and comfort for every journey.
