Encar.com revealed that the top models sold for car transactions in the first half of this year were the ‘Hyundai Grandeur’ and ‘BMW 5 Series’. For domestic cars, sales were largely concentrated on ‘compact and subcompact models’, while imported cars were primarily ‘German sedans’.

This analytical report is based on big data from car transactions completed from January to June this year using the ‘Encar Comparison Estimate’ car selling service.

First of all, the trend for domestic car sales in the first half of this year shows that 6 out of the top 10 models were compact and subcompact sedan models.

The model with the highest number of transactions among domestic cars sold through Encar Comparison Estimate was the ‘Grandeur HG’, which led the mid-size sedan market as a symbol of success in the 2010s. Analyzing it shows that the 5th generation Grandeur HG, released in 2011, has generated a lot of sales, considering it has been around for 12-13 years.

In second place, the ‘All-New Morning,’ launched in Korea in 2011, secured its spot. Following closely were the ‘Avante MD’ and its succeeding generation ‘Avante AD’, ranked 3rd and 4th, while the ‘Kia Ray’ took the 5th position. Models from 6th to 10th place included the YF Sonata, Grand Starex, Grandeur IG, Spark, and Avante HD, respectively.

As for imported cars, 8 out of the top 10 models were German brand mid-size sedans. The most sold model was the BMW 5 Series (F10), followed by the Benz E-Class W213, BMW 5 Series (G30), Audi New A6, and Benz C-Class W205.

From 6th to 10th place were the Benz E-Class W212, BMW 3 Series (F30), Ford Explorer, Benz S-Class W222, and GLC-Class X253, in that order.

With the trend of selling cars through used car platforms spreading, the scope of used cars traded using the Encar Comparison Estimate service has also significantly expanded to include high-priced models. The most expensive model traded through the service in the first half of this year was the Maserati MC20 3.0 V6, which sold for approximately 260.99 million won.

The Encar Comparison Estimate service allows anyone to easily and conveniently sell their car. Customers can choose between the ‘Standard Comparison Estimate’ method, where they register vehicle conditions and receive quotes immediately, or the ‘Encar Comparison Estimate PRO’ method, where an evaluator inspects the vehicle without needing a meeting with a dealer, starting the auction based on that inspection.

In the Standard Comparison Estimate method, users can receive up to 30 quotes in real-time for 48 hours after registering their vehicle condition. In the case of Encar Comparison Estimate PRO, an Encar PRO evaluator visits the customer to inspect the vehicle and based on those inspection results, customers can receive up to 30 quotes within 24 hours. Both methods support the understanding of expected market value by providing details about vehicle history and actual bid information, which can easily be overlooked at the vehicle information registration stage.

Meanwhile, the Encar Comparison Estimate service boasts thorough management systems such as ‘real-time quote monitoring’ to confirm whether the quotes provided to customers are appropriate, thereby expanding their market share in car sales.

A representative from Encar.com stated, “Encar Comparison Estimate supports customers in selling their cars easily and conveniently, resulting in high customer satisfaction. We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness to create a more trustworthy car selling service as the number one used car platform in the future.”
