In the first half of 2023, domestic electric vehicle sales in South Korea reached 66,073 units, marking a 15.8% increase compared to 55,568 units during the same period last year.

Hyundai Motor Company sold 37,180 electric vehicles, an increase of 17.4% from 31,672 units last year. The Porter model recorded 15,620 units sold, a substantial 55.6% increase from 10,040 units in the previous year. The Porter EV emerged as the top-selling electric model, claiming the title of best-selling domestic electric vehicle. The Ioniq 5 saw sales decrease by 37.1% to 9,504 units, while the Ioniq 6 recorded sales of 6,779 units.

Kia achieved sales of 28,050 electric vehicles, a 17.3% rise from 23,192 units last year.

The EV6 recorded sales of 10,927 units, down 10% from 12,158 units in the previous year, but it still marked the highest sales among Kia’s electric vehicles. Following closely was the Bongo EV with 10,397 units sold, a 24.5% increase from 8,351 units last year. The Niro EV saw significant growth, with 4,852 units sold, up 80% from 2,683 units last year. The newly launched EV9 had a strong start, with 1,334 units sold last month.
