Toyota Korea is set to launch the mid-size 7-seater SUV ‘Highlander’ on the 25th (Tuesday).

Under its multi-pathway strategy, Toyota Korea is gradually releasing an electrified lineup that meets the diverse lifestyle needs of its customers.

The Highlander, making its debut in Korea, is a fourth-generation model known for its efficient fuel economy, comfortable ride, and versatile space utilization, powered by a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain.

The exterior design of the Highlander is based on the theme of ‘powerful and spacious,’ featuring dynamic lines and stable body proportions. The front grille reflects the Toyota SUV family look, while the wide front and bold lower design elements convey a sense of stability, complemented by 20-inch wheels and large tires. Its sculpted side profile and stable stance with rear fenders make the Highlander stand out.

The interior offers a premium SUV experience with a horizontally emphasized layout, luxurious materials, and various color combinations. The Highlander provides a comfortable 7-seater configuration with a stair-step seating arrangement that offers an open view for all passengers. Features like independent second-row captain’s seats and a flat-folding function for both the second and third rows enhance space during outdoor activities.

The Highlander boasts a series-parallel hybrid system paired with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, achieving a total system output of 246 horsepower and an impressive combined fuel economy of 13.8 km per liter.

With outstanding fuel efficiency compared to its competitors, the Highlander qualifies for eco-friendly vehicle benefits such as tax incentives and discounts for public parking and congestion fees.

Built on the TNGA-K (Toyota New Global Architecture-K) platform, the Highlander features a rigid body, vibration reduction measures, and optimized suspension tuning for a comfortable ride. It also includes sound-deadening technology around the dashboard and center console to minimize cabin noise, while acoustic glass on the windshield and front doors, along with design improvements on the side mirrors and hood, effectively reduce wind noise for superior NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) performance. Additionally, pitch body control is applied to ensure a comfortable ride for all passengers during acceleration.

Moreover, the hybrid-exclusive E-Four system precisely controls front and rear wheel driving power distribution from 100:0 to 20:80 depending on road conditions, delivering efficient and stable driving performance.

The Highlander features the ‘Toyota Connect’ infotainment system, providing customers with an extensive digital experience. Based on LG Uplus’s U+Drive technology, it includes communication-based navigation, podcasts, mobile TV, and music streaming services like U+ Smart Home. The AI voice recognition system integrated with Naver’s ‘Clova’ allows passengers to control various functions, such as setting navigation destinations and adjusting interior temperatures, using their voices. The LG U+ drive LTE service is free for three years from the subscription date and is chargeable post this period.

Additionally, it comes equipped with the ‘Toyota Safety Sense’ safety features and eight airbags for safer driving. Basic features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen center display, an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system, a kick-sensor powered tailgate for easy trunk access, as well as Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. The Platinum grade adds a panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, 360-degree panoramic view monitor, and digital rearview mirror.

The Highlander also supports an Extended Warranty Program (EWP), which adds an additional 2-year service program to the standard maker warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km, providing a total of 5 years or 100,000 km of safety assurance for customers.

Kang Dae-hwan, Executive Director of Toyota Korea, stated, “The Highlander, newly introduced in Korea, is a model that has received consistent love from customers in the North American market due to its high efficiency, comfortable ride, and versatile space utilization. The Highlander will be a new choice for customers who enjoy outdoor activities and life with pets.”

The Highlander will be available in two grades: Limited and Platinum, with recommended retail prices including VAT and a 5% individual consumption tax of 66.6 million KRW for the Highlander Limited and 74.7 million KRW for the Highlander Platinum.

Moreover, to further enhance the utility of the SUV, Toyota Korea will offer Highlander-specific accessories through its official service centers. Accessories include ‘Roof Rack Crossbar’ for securely transporting cargo on the vehicle roof, ‘Side Step’ to assist children and the elderly in safely boarding, ‘All Weather Floor Liners’ made from durable materials to maintain interior cleanliness, and ‘Cargo Liner’ to keep the trunk area clean. Customers can customize their vehicles according to their preferences. A discount of up to 10% is also available for customers who purchase the ‘Accessory Package’ via the Toyota customer app ‘Yo! Toyota!’
