Volvo Car Korea is equipping its 2024 models with the next-generation T-map integrated infotainment service, utilizing ICT technology to provide enhanced safety and personalized travel experiences.

Developed with T-map Mobility, Volvo is the first in Korea to implement AI-based integrated vehicle infotainment across all vehicle models. This system allows drivers to navigate using voice commands (Aria), explore information, play music, and easily operate calls, texts, and major vehicle functions. It also offers convenient control of NUGU (who) smart home features.

The newly introduced next-gen T-map integrated infotainment service, developed in conjunction with T-map Mobility using Google Android, is tailored specifically for Korea. It includes improved graphics for better visibility, an upgraded T-map 2.0 navigation system for safer driving, advanced personalization through NUGU Auto 2.0, and a T-map store that supports diverse entertainment options.

The upgraded second-generation T-map navigation system supports connected driving services that provide real-time signal information, remaining signal time, and optimal crossing speeds based on Seoul’s next-generation intelligent transport system. This service, combining public transit information with private technology, aims to alert drivers and prevent traffic accidents due to signal changes. Additionally, T-map’s driving habit analysis allows drivers to check their safety driving scores on a dashboard based on driving history, which includes parameters like speeding, sudden acceleration, and driving at night. For electric vehicles, an ‘EV Hot Key’ feature provides real-time information on the number of available chargers at nearby stations, the number of vehicles heading to charging stations, and images from the station.

The AI service NUGU Auto boasts an impressive recognition rate of over 96% in Korean and has been upgraded to offer a more intelligent personalized experience. New features include a ‘personalized recommendation service’ that suggests preferred destinations or favorite routes based on individual usage history, and a ‘personalized routine setting’ that integrates destination, indoor temperature settings, and music playback. Users can also experience their personal assistant through ‘daily briefing’ integration with Google Calendar that provides schedule and weather updates.

Moreover, T-map store is being added to enjoy various entertainment content like a tablet PC, allowing access to news, audiobooks, stock market information, and the Norwegian Vivaldi web browser for full-screen web surfing and video viewing. Based on user preferences, users can also choose Melon in addition to the existing Flo service.

In addition, OTT services like Wave for watching over-the-air TV, the latest movies, dramas, and variety shows will be updated. The in-car payment service for charging and fueling, along with a customer service application ‘Hey Volvo’ providing vehicle management and service center information will also be introduced.

Lee Yoon-mo, CEO of Volvo Car Korea, stated, “With this update, we expect customers to enjoy a safer and more comfortable driving experience and a more convenient smart mobility experience in their daily lives. In the future, Volvo Cars will continue to strive to provide customers with the value of Swedish premium and diverse infotainment experiences.”

Meanwhile, Volvo Car Korea plans to offer an updated digital connectivity and infotainment experience for new and existing customers through continuous system updates. The integrated vehicle infotainment system jointly developed with T-map Mobility was created with an investment of 30 billion won in 2021 and features wireless updates (Over-The-Air, OTA) for key vehicle functions and includes 5 years of free LTE support.
