Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the world’s first all-electric Mercedes-Maybach vehicle, the ‘Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV’, at the Shanghai Auto Show and its digital world premiere on the afternoon of the 17th (local time).
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is expected to redefine high-end luxury in the electric mobility era by merging Maybach’s unparalleled luxury with the superior technology found in the EQS SUV.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV boasts a timelessly luxurious and meticulously crafted exterior design, coupled with a spacious and comfortable interior enhanced by exquisite craftsmanship, delivering powerful performance with a maximum output of 484 kW and maximum torque of 950 Nm. Additionally, high-end comfort features such as the Maybach driving program, executive seating that provides first-class comfort, and the chauffeur package have been extensively equipped to offer a different level of pleasantness and comfort during driving.
Under the Maybach motto of ‘What is good must also be beautiful’, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV harmoniously blends the unique designs of Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-EQ, maintaining its presence as a top-tier luxury model while not sacrificing its SUV characteristics.
The front showcases a 3D depth with vertically arranged trim strips in chrome on the black panel radiator grille of Mercedes-EQ, elegantly merging the designs of Maybach and EQ. The triangular star at the center of the hood signifies the luxury that Maybach models portray. Furthermore, the optional two-tone color finish beautifully enhances the luxurious exterior of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.
The Maybach EQS SUV incorporates signature design elements throughout the vehicle, prominently displaying the Maybach brand emblem and lettering, which highlights its identity as a top-tier luxury class vehicle. The Maybach emblem is meticulously positioned on the rear door sides, B-pillar, D-pillar, and the trim parts of the side bumpers, emphasizing Maybach’s renowned premium quality.
The classic Maybach lettering is elegantly etched into chrome decorative strips that connect with the digital light headlights, adorning the tailgate, rear apron, and spoiler lip, creating a graceful silhouette.
The wheels are also designed with sophistication and detail. The high-gloss black cladding applied to the wheel arch showcases the SUV’s strong character, while 21-inch or 22-inch Maybach alloy and forged wheels enhance the exclusivity of Maybach.
The interior of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV emphasizes craftsmanship and modern elegance. At the front, an innovative MBUX hyperscreen, which combines three displays into one, presents passengers with a superior digital experience.
Upon entering the vehicle, a uniquely designed welcome screen for the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV appears on all three displays, greeting passengers, while the zero-layer interface provides tailored access to the necessary functions for users. Notably, a dedicated Maybach mode can also be configured within the instrument cluster.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV comes equipped with exclusive Maybach nappa leather seats in a warm espresso brown and balau brown pearl color, providing a sensory and luxurious interior.
Optional crystal white and silver gray pearl colors of Maybach’s Exclusive Nappa leather can elevate the sophistication of the interior further. All leather used on seats is sustainably sourced.
Moreover, elements such as the stainless steel pedal system, headrest cushions, front seatbacks, and rear seating areas feature the Maybach emblem, reinforcing its signature luxury appeal.
The rear seats of the Maybach EQS SUV create an ambiance that satisfies all senses, delivering a lounge-like experience with its meticulous design elements crafted from exquisite materials and high-end comfort features.
Like the front seats, the Executive seats come standard with ventilation, massage, and heating functions for the neck and shoulders, while the chauffeur package includes a calf massage feature to alleviate tension and allow for a comfortably relaxing ride. Furthermore, if the rear seat passenger opts to recline, the front passenger seat automatically moves forward, maximizing the rear space.
Additionally, the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System, consisting of two 11.6-inch Full HD touchscreens and a 7-inch MBUX rear-seat tablet, comes standard, allowing rear-seat passengers to directly control the vehicle’s entertainment functions. With Bluetooth or HDMI, devices like smartphones and laptops can be connected for an even wider array of content enjoyment. Furthermore, the MBUX Interior Assistant is also standard, aiding in more intuitive and intelligent control of the vehicle.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV demonstrates that sustainability and luxury can be achieved simultaneously.
It is the first vehicle from Mercedes-Benz to utilize vegetable-tanned leather for seat covers and interior finishing materials. The tanning process employs coffee bean husks, with all ingredients derived from plant-based components.
Mercedes-Benz has established standards for sustainable leather processing, auditing the entire leather supply chain from the breeding grounds to the final product. Leather suppliers must operate grazing areas without illegal deforestation or natural forest loss and can only source leather from animals humanely raised. Additionally, chrome cannot be used in the tanning process, which must utilize plant-based or other sustainable tanning materials.
Moreover, several parts and materials used in the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV are made from resource-saving materials like recycled aluminum, and the batteries for the vehicle are produced sustainably with a carbon-neutral process.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension, offering an adaptive damping system that precisely responds and adjusts the individually controlled wheels according to driving modes, speed, and load, ensuring stable driving and a comfortable ride in any road condition. The ground clearance can be increased by up to 35mm depending on speed, and the rear axle steering, with a maximum angle of 4.5°, is standard, allowing for agile vehicle maneuverability.
In addition, the DYNAMIC SELECT feature, which includes Eco, Sport, Offroad, and Individual driving modes, allows for the motor, ESP®, suspension, and steering characteristics to vary based on the selected driving mode.
The Maybach EQS SUV comes standard with the Maybach driving program, a setting that replaces the existing Comfort mode to maximize rear-seat passenger comfort and provide the ultimate ride experience that Maybach is renowned for.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is equipped with features worthy of the high-end luxury electric SUV, including a large HEPA filter to effectively purify the interior air, a Dolby Atmos sound system that elevates the audio experience within the vehicle, and a Burmester surround sound system with 15 speakers, along with the Air Balance package that offers sensory fragrances tailored to passengers’ preferences.
The Air Balance package provides a specially designed No.12 Mood Ebony fragrance, enhancing a unique and dramatic atmosphere.
