Volvo Cars is investing in brain-monitoring AI startup, CorrActions, through its venture investment organization, Volvo Tech Fund.

This investment is part of a strategic effort to develop next-generation safety technology. Volvo aims to enhance driver focus and reduce crash risks through safety technologies based on understanding human behavior, ultimately striving to eliminate collision incidents.

The AI-based software developed by CorrActions is designed to more accurately detect the cognitive states of both drivers and passengers by reflecting brain activity through subtle muscular movements. For instance, it can capture signs of distraction, intoxication, or drowsiness by detecting subtle muscle movements in the driver’s hands via steering wheel sensors.

Alexander Petrovsky, CEO of Volvo Tech Fund, stated, “This investment in CorrActions is a strategic move to enhance the safety of vehicles and passengers, aligning with Volvo’s ultimate goal. We aim to form strategic partnerships with attractive startups that can help solidify our position as a technology leader in the mobility industry through the Tech Fund.”

Meanwhile, Volvo Cars has been investing in leading technology fields within the automotive industry such as safety, electrification, and digitalization through its Tech Fund.
