Kia officially declared its strong entry into the Chinese electric vehicle market by unveiling the compact electric SUV ‘Concept EV5’ at the ‘Kia EV Day’ held at the E-sports Cultural Center in Shanghai, China on the 20th (Monday).

Kia highlighted its record-breaking global sales in 2022 and expressed its strong commitment to becoming a leader in the world’s largest electric vehicle market by launching a dedicated electric vehicle in the Chinese market this year.

President Song Ho-sung stated, “This year, we plan to launch the EV6 and EV5 in China, and next year, we will introduce our flagship SUV EV9. The success of Kia in the rapidly changing Chinese automotive market is a key element of Kia’s global strategy,” he said.

President Song further added, “Kia aims to capture the eyes and hearts of Chinese customers with innovative electric vehicle models that combine cutting-edge technology with various emotional elements, driving its growth as an EV Tier-1 brand with high expectations.”

The event was graced by the attendance of major executives, including Vice President Kim Kyung-hyun, the General Manager of Kia Motors China, and Vice President Karim Habib, head of Kia’s Global Design Center, alongside President Song Ho-sung.

Meanwhile, Kia also unveiled the compact electric SUV ‘Concept EV5’ during the event, receiving a warm reception on-site.

The Concept EV5 model presents a vision of innovative mobility life through its bold, forward-thinking style and boundary-pushing interior space.

Kia plans to launch dedicated electric vehicles this year in the Chinese market to provide an entirely new experience of mobility to Chinese customers.
