“We will launch a 1-ton electric truck that is over 20% more efficient compared to competitor models in 2025.”

This is a statement from Kim Bang-shin, the President of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle.

Tata Daewoo held a press conference on February 2 at their headquarters in Gunsan to celebrate the launch of their new truck, the Daewoo The-Ssen. Beginning with the release of the mid-size truck The-Ssen in 2020, Tata Daewoo completed their truck lineup by launching the medium-duty Nexsen and heavy-duty Gusen trucks in 2022.

In the sub-mid-size truck market, which is traditionally dominated by Hyundai’s Mighty, Tata Daewoo has achieved a record of 5,000 cumulative sales, expanding its market share.

However, without a small truck, Tata Daewoo has not yet tapped into the 150,000-unit small truck market. In response to this, President Kim Bang-shin firmly stated, “Tata Daewoo will launch a 1-ton electric truck in 2025.” By 2025, Tata Daewoo will have a full lineup ranging from 1-ton light trucks to heavy-duty trucks, truly embodying the characteristics of a full truck company.

President Kim also did not hold back on his praise for the upcoming 1-ton electric truck set to launch in the coming years. He mentioned, “One of the complaints about existing 1-ton electric trucks in the market is their short driving range,” and added, “Our truck’s driving range and output will be at least 20% greater than current models.” Moreover, he noted that it will likely be labeled as over-spec compared to existing 1-ton electric trucks, continuing his praise for the upcoming release.
