DS Automobiles is entering the pre-season of the FIA Formula E World Championship Season 9 in Valencia, Spain, starting on the 13th, alongside its new Formula E partner, Penske Autosport. They also unveiled the ‘DS E-TENSE FE23 Gen3’ race car.

The newly named ‘DS Penske’ team will compete in Season 9 with their third-generation race car, the ‘FE23’, which is characterized by its pursuit of high efficiency compared to the second generation. It is approximately 60 kg lighter than its predecessor, and more than 40% of the energy used during driving is recovered during braking, focusing on efficient energy use and recovery. As a result, for the first time in Formula E history, the hydraulic brake has been removed from the rear wheels.

Additionally, the FE23 features an all-wheel-drive system, with motors producing 250 KW at the front and 350 KW at the rear, achieving a total performance of 600 KW. Based on these specifications, the third-generation ‘FE23’ showcases a powerful top speed of 280 km/h.

The battery is designed for recycling and reuse, aligning with the environmentally friendly goals of the Formula E competition. The car’s exterior is crafted from recycled carbon fiber, harmoniously incorporating black and gold to perfectly embody the spirit of DS Automobiles while showcasing its craftsmanship and innovation as a premium French brand.

By partnering with Penske Autosport, one of the most influential brands in motorsports, DS Automobiles takes a new step in the 2023 FIA Formula E World Championship Season 9. Stofel Vandoorne, who secured the championship title in Season 8, joins forces with Jean-Eric Vergne to challenge for victory in Season 9.

Starting a new season with DS Automobiles, Stofel Vandoorne expressed his satisfaction with the newly revamped DS E-TENSE FE23 race car, stating, “I am thrilled to bring formidable regenerative braking capabilities into the mix. I’m excited to put pressure on rival teams with the FE23 and hope to stand proudly on the podium alongside Jean-Eric Vergne, a driver with numerous victories.”

Jean-Eric Vergne, a double champion in Formula E, remarked, “The streamlined design, speed, and aggressive performance of the newly designed FE23 perfectly encapsulate the ethos of DS Penske. I am looking forward to setting new records in Season 9 with the FE23.”

Beatrice Foucher, CEO of DS Automobiles, stated, “All cars from DS Automobiles launching in 2024 will feature 100% electrification. We will consistently develop and upgrade technology to apply the know-how and advancements gained from the FE23 race car and Formula E races to all of DS Automobiles’ vehicles.”

Meanwhile, the upcoming FIA Formula E World Championship Season 9 will feature 11 teams equipped with the advanced third-generation race vehicles. Anticipation is high for the hottest season since its inception in 2014, thanks to updated regulations. The season will kick off on January 14 in Mexico City and will sequentially host a total of 17 rounds across various countries including Saudi Arabia and India.
