The Hyundai Kona has returned with a bold and wide design.

Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the completely revamped and future-oriented design of the ‘All-New Kona’ (KONA) for the first time on Tuesday, the 20th. On this day, they showcased the designs of three models of the Kona, including the electric vehicle, internal combustion engine (including hybrid), and N Line, highlighting the Kona’s iconic charm.

The All-New Kona is a second-generation model that has been presented five years after its initial introduction in June 2017, characterized by an increased length of 4,350 mm and a wheelbase of 2,660 mm, extended by 145 mm and 60 mm respectively, ensuring a generous spaciousness. (Note: Internal combustion model specifications, Electric vehicle length: 4,355 mm / N Line length: 4,385 mm / Wheelbase remains the same)

Hyundai plans to enhance its global standing as a popular vehicle while presenting the design direction for the next-generation SUV through the Kona design, which has evolved into a rugged yet high-tech image.

Unlike the conventional new car design process that starts with internal combustion engine models, the Kona was designed starting with the electric vehicle model, followed by adjustments for the internal combustion and N Line models to maximize its futuristic image.

The ‘seamlessly connected horizontal lamps’ that immediately catch the eye at the front highlight Kona’s presence while imparting a wide impression. The elegantly refined curves from the bumper to the hood emphasize Kona’s volumetric appeal.

The sharply etched character lines on the sides amplify the dynamic and sleek silhouette of the Kona, while the naturally flowing line connecting from the beltline to the rear spoiler enhances the dynamic image as if it is ready to surge forward.

Additionally, the ‘armor’ shaped wheel arch cladding design tightly wraps around the wheel arches, integrating seamlessly with the front and rear lamps to create a robust yet uniquely stylish look for the Kona.

At the rear, the application of horizontal lamps similarly brings a sense of unity, while the integrated design of the rear spoiler and auxiliary brake lamp adds a sporty feel.

The Kona incorporates unique characteristics tailored for each model based on its electric vehicle design.

The electric vehicle model features the first-ever application of the ‘horizontal lamps mixed with pixels’, showcasing Hyundai’s new lighting design. By adopting a design with a parametric pixel structure applied to the lower front and rear bumpers, it emphasizes the Kona’s futuristic image while maintaining simplicity.

The internal combustion and hybrid models feature an intense front bumper design and skid plate that emphasizes the Kona’s identity, along with black-colored wheel arch cladding for a rugged impression.

The N Line features a sporty front bumper design and silver side skirts to achieve an even lower stance.

Hyundai also revealed the interior image of the electric vehicle model along with the Kona’s exterior design. The interior is remarkably flexible, designed to offer a more advanced mobility experience tailored to the diverse lifestyles of its customers.

The driver-centric controls paired with a 12.3-inch dual wide display create a high-tech ambiance, while the horizontal layout of the crashpad maximizes space and visibility.

The second row features bench seats designed like sofas without grooves, providing comfortable sitting and maximizing usability inside the cabin.

Thanks to the gear shift relocated to the steering wheel, the console space feels more spacious, providing both a tidy interior image and generous storage convenience. Some interior storage spaces feature mood lighting, enhancing the convenience and sensory experience for passengers.

Lee Sang-yeop, Vice President of the Hyundai Design Center, stated, “The All-New Kona has evolved boldly while inheriting its unique character, making it more upscale and advanced in every aspect. The All-New Kona will become a true lifestyle supporter capable of embracing a wide range of customer demographics.”

Hyundai plans to launch the All-New Kona along with the beginning of sales starting with the internal combustion models early next year.
