Genesis has once again proven its top safety.

Genesis announced that the G80 Electric model received the highest rating of ‘Top Safety Pick+’ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) on the 20th (local time).

With this TSP+ achievement for the G80 Electric model, Genesis has earned the honor of having all its models evaluated by IIHS, including the G70, G80, G90, GV60, GV70, and GV80, ranked in the TSP+ category.

Following the GV60 built on the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP, the G80 Electric model is based on an internal combustion engine model and has also achieved the highest rating, once again demonstrating the excellence of Genesis electric vehicles.

Founded in 1959, IIHS is a nonprofit organization that evaluates the crash safety performance and collision prevention capability of vehicles released in the U.S. market each year, and announces the results.

Since 2012, IIHS has introduced small overlap tests that assess safety by colliding only part of the front end of the vehicle, being recognized as one of the most stringent new car safety evaluations in the world.

Vehicles demonstrating the highest safety receive the TSP+ rating, while those that score at a satisfactory level receive the TSP rating.

To achieve a TSP+ rating, a vehicle must score ‘Good’ in all six crash safety evaluations: ▲Driver-side small overlap ▲Passenger-side small overlap ▲Front crash ▲Side crash ▲Roof strength ▲Head restraints.

Additionally, it must achieve ‘Advanced’ or higher in the front collision prevention system test (vehicle-to-vehicle / vehicle-to-pedestrian), and ‘Acceptable’ or higher in the headlight evaluation across all trims.

The G80 Electric model scored ‘Good’ in all six crash safety evaluations, proving its top safety.

It received the highest rating of ‘Superior’ in the front collision prevention system evaluation, effectively detecting vehicle-to-vehicle collisions below 40 km/h as well as pedestrians to prevent accidents. In the headlight evaluation, it scored ‘Acceptable’ across all trims.

The G80 Electric model features a total of ten airbags, including a center airbag for the front seats, and a variety of advanced driving safety assistance features such as lane departure warning, intelligent speed limit assistance, driver attention warning, high beam assistance, blind-spot collision avoidance assistance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assistance, and highway driving assistance.

Claudia Marquez, Genesis North America’s Chief Operating Officer, stated, “Genesis prioritizes customer safety in the development of all models,” and added, “We are pleased that all Genesis models, including the G80 Electric model, have been recognized for their high safety through IIHS.”
