“After much consideration, I have decided to change the name to KG Mobility,” said Kwak Jae-seon, chairman of the KG Group, which acquired SsangYong Motors.

Kwak Jae-seon received the Industry Contribution Award at the ‘2022 Automotive Man of the Year’ event hosted by the Korea Automotive Journalists Association on the evening of the 21st. He was recognized for his efforts to normalize the company after acquiring SsangYong Motors, which was in a state of corporate rehabilitation.

In his acceptance speech, Chairman Kwak revealed, “There has been a lot of thought on whether to remain as SsangYong Motors or to change to KG Mobility.” He explained, “There are pros and cons to the name change, but just as Kia changed its name to emphasize its innovative image, SsangYong Motors will also change its name to KG Mobility.”

Kwak emphasized, “There is a loyal fan base for the name SsangYong Motors that cannot be ignored, but the strong image of past hardships remains, making it difficult to adequately explain the merits of SsangYong Motors.”
