The GM Korea Foundation practiced community engagement through a mural painting volunteer activity, supporting environmental improvements in the Incheon metropolitan area, specifically in Bupyeong District, from October 21 to November 1.

This mural project was conducted through collaboration between the volunteer group ‘GM Dreams’ at the Foundation and Bupyeong District Office, filling about 180 meters of the area around the ‘Cheongcheon 1-dong Childcare Center’ with murals themed on ‘dreams and hopes.’

Participants in the mural painting included President Brian McMurray of GM’s Korean R&D firm, Bupyeong District Mayor Cha Jun-taek, head of the Bupyeong Volunteer Center Lee Byung-chul, and volunteers from GM Dreams.

Brian McMurray stated, “The GM Foundation continuously conducts volunteer activities for the community based on the values of diversity and inclusion, and the opportunity for this mural painting to showcase the talents of employees, who possess exceptional design skills, adds even more significance.” He continued, “We plan to fulfill our social responsibilities through various community contribution activities in collaboration with neighbors.”

GM Dreams is a volunteer group formed in 2021 with about 20 GM employees who are passionate about social contribution activities. They have engaged in various projects, including environmental cleanup of the Gulpocheon River in Incheon and participation in improving the environment of public childcare centers in Sanggok-dong, showcasing the real values of community service and sharing.

This mural project involved a total of 200 participants, including 12 employees with strong design capabilities. Prior to the event, from the end of September, they conducted preliminary work on mural themes and designs, collaborating with Bupyeong District Office to finalize the project and proceed with the mural painting.

The GM Foundation conveys GM’s values of diversity and inclusion through its community contribution activities aimed at mutually beneficial growth with local communities. Notably, through its flagship vehicle donation program, the Foundation has donated approximately 700 vehicles to support the mobility of neighbors in need, while GM employees have actively contributed over 200,000 hours to supporting marginalized groups, including children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
