Kakao is teaming up with the Seoul Metro to help ensure safe travel for all train users, especially those with disabilities.

Kakao has integrated platform edge (the gap between the train and the platform) information provided by the Seoul Metro into Kakao Map. This initiative is part of a partnership agreement signed in July to improve convenience for individuals with mobility challenges when using the subway.

Since July 2020, Kakao Map has been informing users about the existence of essential facilities across 1,107 urban railway stations nationwide, including ▲ Accessible restrooms ▲ Breastfeeding facilities ▲ Wheelchair lifts ▲ Wheelchair charging stations, thus enhancing mobility for people with disabilities and the elderly.

The Seoul Metro plans to continue providing necessary data for the enhancement of subway station services on Kakao Map and support the utilization of content for individuals with mobility challenges. Kakao aims to further improve digital accessibility to transportation support services for these travelers using this information.

Park Seong-hyeok from Kakao’s Vector Map Data Cell stated, “Based on our data collaboration with the Seoul Metro, we aim to strengthen our mobility support service so that everyone can easily use the subway with Kakao Map without needing additional assistance.”
